Just saw Alan Cumming in Bent - Should I watch the movie?

I went to see Alan Cumming in the West End production of Bent this week and thought he was amazing. And the play itself was gripping. I didn't realise a movie of it was made - is it any good?

I also saw the play with Alan Cummings in and i thought Alan was great up until the interval, then i didnt really feel like he was believable. The actor who played Horst was amazing though, really really good. Can't praise him highly enough! I didnt realise there would be full frontal nudity!! lol.

I think you should def see the film, Clive Owen is brilliant as is the guy who plays Horst. A lot of people have been saying that the film is a poor adaption but i have to disagree, I thought the film was better than the play.

hope it helps! xx

YES!
It's low budget and a little "stagey" but has very strong performances. The opening set-piece in a cabaret club is not representative of the rest of it (I think the set piece is quite poorly done). I urge you to watch it if you can, but you'll know from seeing the play that it's a moving and at times deeply distressing story (though there are some funny bits, delivered well by Owen - hope he does a comedy at some point soon).

I thought the movie was mostly well-made and very well acted, but I do think the immediacy of the subject and the way it's written works better live on-stage than on-screen.

Most plays work much better on stage than on screen, but I think the cast did a remarkable job here. Still, I'd much rather see the play.
