What happened to the girl in white on the train?

*SPOILERS*

Did Max have to have sex with her while she was dead, or did they kill her afterwards? Worse yet, did he have to kill her?

They killed her in advance, he wasn't involved in the murder, he "just" did what they wanted him to ...

Question in return: Can you call it a rape when the person you're raping is already dead?!

Well considering that you can't be willing or unwilling when you're dead I would think that it wouldn't be rape, just everyday necrophilia.

where did you get the necro bit? I couldn't understand what was happening. I guessed they were going to make him have sex with her but the scene is just so abstract I couldn't tell what was happening.

You should better READ the responses here more carefully before writing insulting messages:

I wrote above at the beginningof this thread the following:

I wrote that some years ago. It's not my fault if people answer my response YEARS later. But as they answered me, I answered back and told the truth, which is: I don't remember.

Actually "that necro bit" comes from the play where it is more than obvious that they kill her first then demand that Max prove that he's not "Bent". It is not very obvious in the movie, unless it has been cut - which is possible.

Most necrophiliacs I know operate by the "silence is consent"-rule.

When I'm gone I would like something to be named after me. A psychiatric disorder, for example.

I don't know why everyone thinks she was dead. He is taken into the car where she is sitting on a chair, she looks up at him, the camera swirls around to imply that something dizzyingly awful is about to take place.

He later tells how he was forced to rape her.

"First you ask if you can be red, knowing that I'm always red."

Max says "She was dead" when he confesses to Horst that he was forced to rape her with everyone watching and taunting him.

I thought it was pretty clear she was already dead. That was why he said something to the effect of "she was an angel sent from heaven to save me."

She was dead. Max says she was dead, and there is a flashback that shows him cradling her dead body while the Nazis laugh at him, and it's implied that that is right before the made him have sex with her. It really couldn't have been clearer unless they actually showed it.
