What was the son getting out of this

Been awhile since seen movie and just recall that the son was the one who hired the hitmen. What I don't get is why he even needed to have been there (besides to get his cut). But also was he going to gain some inheritance if his family died or what? Also what was he thinking taken his girlfriend along for the heist.

It seemed to me like he was intending to double-cross the robbers the whole time. He would have tricked Susanne into believing Justin was behind it all, and she would testify to hearing the robbers mention Justin. The only problem was that Justin wouldn't die, and helped save Susanne after the robbers had been killed.
