This is the coldest romantic movie I ever seen, that's not romance!!!!!!

And this movie is supposed to be good, give me a break!

The lady says, we have to be careful.... careful of what???? They don't even kiss throughout the hole movie!!!

They start to be sweet on each other by.... the clothes??? His tide, her purse... COME ON!!!!

I mean, the only bound between them is that they were both left by their husband/wife??? Isn't that too little for an attraction??? We don't even hear their conversations when their writing that stupid novel, WE DON'T FEEL THEIR ROMANCE AS AN AUDIENCE.

Of course at the end they decide to live miserably forever without even having a intimate moment under the rain,

This movie is a portrait of LOOSERS and whoever feels related with this kind of romance hasn't has a good romance in his life, only failed ones like these two.

Please anyone recommend me a good ROMANTIC movie, the only good one I've seen and believable is When Harry Met Sally, now that's a romantic flick

It's an exercise in elegance and restraint. A cinematic waltz. The sequel '2046' is more sexual in its content.

restraint?....

If a friend of yours would tell a story of how he... restrained with a girl would that be interesting? or would it be better to hear how he tried, succeeded of failed?

In the mood for love is not a story worth telling, I have loads of those! the interesting ones are the daring ones!

reply

Restraint as in the characters hold back and don't want to act on their feelings. It's a reflection of the conservative feelings and propriety of manner found within Chinese culture. Both of the characters found against their urges, because they didn't want to be like their unfaithful partners.

It is a story worth telling, and it's full of heartaching beauty.

You are putting western cultural assumptions on an Eastern film. Passion is easy, denying passion is hard.

Your analysis is fair, but it seems to me like somehow you had the wrong idea of this movie going in. It's a movie about love subtly expressed by two characters. It's all about the mood and implication. It's ok you didn't like it, though.

So I actually downloaded The Heartbreak Kid haha *beep* you owe me fifteen minutes of life dude

But I would be good if you throwed some arguments instead of insults.

I did like Happy Together for example, not exactly a romantic movie but a relationship movie, lots of things going on in there, but this one is as cold as ice.

I do respect the other user's opinions, although I don't agree with them.

You are judging the film without considering the context. It's Hong Kong in the '60s, so... I've been in China and Hong kong for more than one month. And I'm interesting in this topic so I was always paying attention. I only saw ONE public kiss in that time... It's a different culture, you can't judge it like you do. The 'romantic' expressions are not the same all around the world. You know that

I could give you an entire lecture about how your wrong but:
No it isn't exactly romantic:
That's sort of the point...
