Who Would Yo Liked To Have Seen Cast ?

Who would you liked to have been cast in the roles of Steed & Mrs. Peel ? I think Kenneth Brannagh and Emma Thompson would have been perfect.

Kenneth? And Emma? Guess, this must be the strangest casting idea since Uma Thurman and Ralph Fiennes. ThereĀ“s only one actor fitting: Mr. Stephen Fry. Team him up with Drew Barrymore, who looks marvellous in a cat-suit and can fight.

reply

Liz Hurley would have been much better as Peel

reply

About Liz Hurley I think you're right. She's got the Diana Rigg's charm. Uma is not exactly for Mrs. Peel's part.

I thought Ralph Fiennes rather good (i mean , come on, hes hot) but for Peel, I'd say Liz Hurley as well

reply

I agree. I'd cast Ralph Fiennes (hottie, fer sure) and Elizabeth Hurley as Mrs. Emma Peel.

This movie needed the cast that it couldn't have-Patrick Macnee & Diana Rigg circa 1965

reply

I watched some of the old ones with Mr. Macnee in it and I didn't care for him at all. I mean at all! Ralph was much, much better, but that doesn't mean someone else couldn't have been even better.

reply

maybe elijah wood and drew barrymore.
Although, thinking about it for a while you could probably find an actor and an actress better suited.

Elijah Wood??? FRODO BAGGINS AS JOHN STEED?! What you smoking?!

Personally, I agree with what everyone else seems to be saying: Ralph Fiennes and Elizabeth Hurley. Now all the need is a decent script!

I think Sean Connery COULD'VE made a decent villian, if only he hadn't been so bland and over-the-top.

reply

I would keep Ralph Fiennes as Steed, however, I think Miranda Richardson, Nicole Kidman or Cate Blanchett would have made better Peels. Other than that, the casting was bang-on! Especially Broadbent as "Mother"....

reply

Paige Turco as Emma Peel. Jude Law as Steed. Steed needs to have a sense of fun, and I don't get that from Rafe Fiennes.

reply

Tom Wilkinson as John Steed

Elizabeth Hurley as Emma Peel (always my first choice for the role)

The royal princess of dinamarca is exact Diana Rigg, If they do not believe it, look for her for Internet, in all the Steed a Young man Antony Hopkins had been perfect. http://www.answers.com/topic/mary-crown-princess-of-denmark

reply

You're quite right about the princess. On that photo she's a copy of Mrs. Rigg's Mrs. Peel. By the way, she's one of the most beautiful princesses.

Exactly, and that's why any avengers remake is fighting an uphill battle; it is going to be compared to one of the best television shows of all time, and Drew Barrymore just wouldn't cut it as Ms Peel reguardless of how well she fills a cat suit.

reply

Actually it was Uma Thurman. Of course she wasn't as good as Diana Rigg, no doubt about that. Anyway, I still like "The Avengers".

It would have been better to pick up on the Britpop culture in Britain at the time, rather than 60s looking back feel of the original series. Kate Winslet and Johnny Lee Miller

reply

Ralph Fiennes remains as Steed. Besides he's great eye candy. Liz Hurley as Peel. She does a good job as coming off as fun and charming.

steve coogan as steed (is he doing a remake of the persuaders??)
prs. peel would be a harder choice. i'd say kelly macdonald (now, not in 1998) or catherine keener as cathy gale dropping mrs. peel altogether.

Mrs. Peel and Steed ARE the Avengers. Gale, Tara King and the rest are just cheap substitutes.

urg, i know some people who'd say that peel is a poor substitute of cathy. shame they did not have the money to shoot the pre-rigg episodes on film and on locations.

I've always thought that Patrick Stewart would have been an amazing John Steed.

Mrs. Peel? I intially thought that Lucy Lawless would have been an interesting idea, but I've never seen her do sophisticated. Kate Beckinsdale perhaps? Maybe Thandie Newton.

Going against the flow i think that the casting was perfect specially the loathed uma thurman. i think she was amazing. furthermore everything else was fabulous
