It was a comic series that ran 66 issues plus some other one shots and a mini that deals exactly with the offspring of an angel and a demon and the affect it has on a small town Texas preacher. The offspring inhabits him and after he finds out that God has left his throne, he intends to use the ability given hm by the offspring to make God answer for all the suffering that has occurred since He stepped down.

That actually sounds really interesting (the comic book). The bummer is that it's a comic book. There's a lot of prejudice against comic books (including from me [I just don't like 'em] ), and an idea like that could make quite an interesting read/ successful book. But because it's a comic book, it wouldn't get anywhere near the exposure such a radical theme could derive, if it were printed as a short story/ novel.
It truly is a shame.

There have been numerous false starts for a film, as well as a plan to make it an HBO series that hasn't gotten off the ground. If you could ignore your prejudice and just give the first collection a try, I think you'd have a had time not continuing. You could probably even get one at your library or just be a bum and read it in a bookstore.
