I just caught the movie half way through.
Who's the guy that the kid killed, the one who had the knife in his back?

He was a random homeless guy that saw the old man in his Nazi uniform and was thus suddenly very expendable. The old man was afraid he knew more than he was letting on and thus got him very drunk attacked him, and threw him in the basement to die. When the kid came by the guy got back up, so he finished him off.

Roger Ebert has no opinion. This is the same prick that would give Passion two thumbs up just to look good with the christians. And all it was, was Jesus getting beat up for two hours. No clear message whatsoever. I hate these critics!!! T3 two thumbs up?!!! Arggggh!!!!!
