This film is NOT scary!

I've bought the film on DVD almost 6 months ago now, and posted on here long ago when this board was 100% dead. Now that there is some life on it I must post this for some feedback. I bought this film because of my interest in Nazi's. Everyone, including the movie case itself says that it's so terrifying, etc. Um sorry, I LOVED it but, I wasn't scared once. It was a great film. I guess it really does depend on who you are. You might say I'm a Nazi symathiser or whatever, but I really enjoyed it. The part where Dussander is wearing the uniform and marching had me so excited I freaked out! The uniforms were incredible. Though the cat thing was disturbing, the film didn't frighten me at all. For you guys, who obviously like most people hate the Nazi's, what was it exactly that you found frightening?

...doesn't mean it's intended to be "scary". Many of his short stories -some of his best, in my opinion- have no "horror" or "supernatural" elements in them. Think of "The Body", which was renamed "Stand By Me" when the film version was made, or "Shawshank Redemption". Apt Pupil is a psychological drama, at least by my deifinition. The problem lies with the general populace, and Hollywood preoducer-types, who associate anything SK writes with "SCARY!".

I wasn't frightened by it; I was disturbed. The book was better, without the wimpy ending, and conveyed the horrific downward spiral of Todd's already loose moral fiber. THAT was the real horror of the story: an average suburbanite teenager allows himself to be drawn into a morbid fascination with the gruesome, until it becomes all-consuming.

"Madness takes its toll. Please have exact change."

Disturbed and Scary are not the same thing. You can be disturbed and not scared like with this film. Very little suspense. Mostly drama. This is more interested in what the boy has in interested of the guy. Not all Stephen King books or movies off his books are horror. I saw in in the theater and thought it was good back then but now I am like what did I like about it? It is a pretty boring movie.

Rated R Horror movies are better, no matter the argument.

Madness.....
You pretty much nailed it!
Disturbing? Yes.
Scary?
In a way, I'd have to say yes. Todd's madness is a scary thing. This sort of thing happens in everyday life. To me, that's pretty scary.

Who said it was supposed to be scary?

Bryan Singer, the director, was molesting little boys backstage during the filming of this movie

Do you find it scarier now?

reply

I thought the hypocrisy was scarier.
