What was with her hair?

In the beginning when she dressed like a hobo it's not even to her shoulders; then after she puts the cute little blue dress on it's suddenly almost to her waist.

4 for you Glen Coco! You go Glen Coco!

If you look carefully enough, her hair is wrapped as a hair tie for the little pony tale she sports with the shorter looking hair. I didn't realize it until much later, but it used to bug the heck out of me!

I think it's because of the ponytail too. I mean it doesn't seem that long when it's on the ponytail but I guess the animators wouldn't mess that so bad.

I personally would like if she had the long hair during the whole movie.

She had her hair tied up in a knot with the extra hair sticking out at the beginning of the movie. It actually makes sense that her hair would be that long. I remember wondering the same thing as you for the longest time.

Actually such long hair was commonplace at the time and setting. They did their research.

Olympic Champions should push the boundaries of their sport. Evgeni Plushenko is one such athlete.

I just watched the movie again, it's bugging me too lol To explain it, I just assumed that her hair grew that long during the long journey from St. Petersburg to Paris.

her height also changes. when she and Dimitri are dancing (and for the rest of the movie too), they're about the same height and it didn't look like she was wearing tall shoes. but when he saves her from jumping off the ship, she only comes up to about his shoulder.

If you notice how short her hair looks when it's up in a bun either when they're shopping in Paris or when she's dressed for the ballet, it makes sense that it would also be around that short it's tied up and under her hat. Also notice how long her ponytail is in the phantom phantasy (Once Upon a December). They wanted her to look like a "skinny nobody" and that hairstyle did the trick. I thought they did a very good job of having her hair reflect her journey from young Anastasia to orphan Anya to Grand Duchess Anastasia back to Dmitri's Anya.

Bun. Took me a bit to get that, too. I actually had to ask a friend.

As for ponyails, I give them a bit of leeway with that 'cause I have mine up in a ponytail right now and it barely hits my shoulders. Down, it's to the middle of my back. Plus if you do a pull-through, it makes it even shorter and it's kinda hard to see, so... *shrugs* leeway from me on that.

Another thing about her hair that's interesting and something I found kind of odd is that, the story starts in 1916, then fast forwards ten years later, so it's about 1926-27, well throughout the 20's, the short bob-style was the big thing for women. So I find it odd that Anya would have long hair, shouldn't it be short? It's funny she seemed to be the only one, all the other female characters you see, especially the ones at the Russian Ballet in Paris all had the 20's look, even Sophie did. Except Anya.

she'd been in an orphanage for years. i doubt she had time to keep up with the latest fashions. the long hair does help make her look more like royalty so that's probably the animators' reasons.
