I know! I love this news! Despite the fact that I'm from the UK...
Just hope that it travels to us! Yay!
I'd recently heard that Aaron Tveit had been approached (or at least mentioned) to play the role of Dimitri! He's already played roles in some of my other favourites; Fiyero in Wicked and Enjolras in Les Miserables! He could definitely play Dimitri. That would totally make my day!
Fifteen new songs! And Angela Lansbury reprising her role as the Dowager Empress Marie Feodorovna! I cannot wait to see how they stage this!

PLEASE KEEP US UPDATED! I just saw this movie for the first time today. And fell in love with it today. This is the kind of thing that would be perfect for the stage.
I'm unfamiliar with Aaron Veidt (I can only afford to go to a few plays in D.C. a year). Do you have a clip of him singing/acting?
I wonder if Kelsey Grammer has interest in reprising his role. Singing on stage would be more demanding, but he did a really good job with his short solo section in "Learn to Do It (reprise)."

I totally have faith that Aaron Tveit could play Dimitri! Absolutely! Apart from the fact that he's one of my favourite Fiyeros...Aaron's about to play Enjolras in the film version of Les Miserables! What an accolade for him! And what proof that he has the theatrical chops to play such a role! Dimitri should be a walk in the park for him! Lol.
Anyways...there are plenty of Aaron Tveit videos on YouTube...but seriously, they don't do him any justice! A lot of the videos are secondary recordings; so the qualities are pretty poor! I cannot find one that seriously showcases his talent...but I will try! Lol.

What songs were left out though? They say only five from the movie and as I recall there were 7 in the film: A Rumor in St. Petersburg Journey to the past Once upon a Decemeber In the Dark of the Night Learn To Do It Paris holds the Key to your heart At The Beginning (not sure if you would include that one though since it wasn't featured in the film)
But also does anyone know the current status of this? Only thing I heard was that Aaron wasn't doing it sadly.
I noticed that. I'm hoping that Paris Holds the Key is cut, because it is awful. I'm also hoping that In the Dark of the Night gets cut, but that's for an entirely different reason that I doubt most of you would agree with:
To my mind, Anastasia is a very good movie. But. I think it could have been amazing if the Rasputin storyline was left out. If it was just a romantic drama, without the cartoonish villain figure, I would have enjoyed it more. Not to say that I didn't enjoy Rasputin, I just think the story could have been better. So I'm sorta wishing that he doesn't make the play's cast, allowing it to focus on Anya, Dimitri and Vlad where it belongs. Look at how much Wicked improved upon its source novel when adapted to the stage; it kept the dark story and political betrayals that made the novel good, but eliminated the religionphobia and the overwrought metaphors.
I think Paris Holds the Key should stay in. In content, it kind of reminds me of the One Short Day song in Wicked. Plus every musical seems to have a number that features most of the characters and Paris Holds the Key would likely be that song.
I hope so, I watched for the first time in full only recently and I remember immediately thinking that opening number in St. Petersberg felt perfect for the stage.
