Can someone explain a scene for me *spoilers*

In the scene where 50 of the slaves are thrown overboard and Djimon Houensou is watching, what is happening to him? Was he being raped? It was confusing, was he trying to fight the sailor infront of him? I just am confused why he is seperate from the group that are being held back and why the guy behind him is whipping him? If he was trying to fight the sailor infront of him they surely would have pulled him off or shot him to end it, which is why i thought maybe they were rapping him and to ensure he didn't fight back too much they were whipping him. But if thats the case surely he would have his back to the guy. I just was confused why Djimon Houensou was on his own and what was happening to him. I know its not important to the story but its just something I am curious about so if you can answer my question I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Well that time it intrigued me too, and i too was curious that what's going on? As far as i can assume, he was holding the captain as hostage and everyone was so busy in that trouble of casting the blacks off the ship and shop was also dwindling on the sea waves, that the crew felt it unable to save their captain. The only thing that could be done that time, was to whip his back by the nearest man standing.

Another perspective was that he might have fallen over the captain by ship moving over the waves and was being whipped otherwise if he might not had fallen over captain, he might have gone in the sea. perhaps his better luck.

But certainly your point doesn't apply of being raped. You yourself have given quite a plausible statement that it cannot be true.
