Not Outstanding, But I FELT It

And that doesnt happen to me too often. I thought this was a very good movie, absorbing, and the whole time I was tensed up as to what would happen next. The actress who played Claude was excellent. She had an overwhelming sadness, and I liked the the film was completely from her point of view. When I say completely, I mean I was glad they didnt show the murder of her new friend and made us feel as clueless and curious as Claude did. In the end we know nothing more about it than she did.

This movie really didn't have any faults. The relationship between Claude and her mother was totally realistic. Nothing about the story and characters was over the top. It didn't have any sharp turns, and thats what made it realistic, but also, in turn, a little dry. As long as it wasnt making any sharp turns plotwise, there could've been a little more provacative didalogue.

8 out of 10.

I have to agree with nearly everything you said. I was lucky enough to catch this film on HBO recently, and immediately went on a trek to find the DVD for my personal collection.

It was very refreshing to see a movie about a young woman growing, finding herself, who happens to fancy women. All too often the lesbian angle of the story is played up. It was nice to feel that Claude could have been male (or her friend could have been male) and the story would have played out the same.

I found myself mesmerized by Alison Folland's perfomance. She captured the awkwardness (both physical and emotional) of the mid-teens so well it was almost painful. I can certainly recall when I didn't walk "normally" when getting used to the changes I was going through. I wish her body of work was easier to access. Can't wait til I can get my hands on a copy of Milwaukee, Minnesota.

It is indeed a film to be felt. I was surprised at how believable this film was, and by the end these girls felt like I had known them a long time. I love these indie slice-of-life dramas that present characters we don't normally see, films that don't try to resolve or prove anything. I gave it 7/10, but perhaps I should upgrade.
