Number seven's alien embryo?

When we see Ripley seven she is a mass of human flesh with a surgical scar, which we can assume means her chest burster was removed. What happened to the chest burster, did it die before it could mature?
Also why did they keep her alive if she was no longer acting as a host, nor was she able bodied like Number 8?

The first queen probably wasn't viable and Number 7 was kept alive for study.

Back in the day I thought it would be an interesting idea if there actually were 2 queens: The one from Number 7 produced Auriga's aliens. Being flawed she mutated later and gave birth to the Newborn. Whereas Number 8's queen, being a more stable specimen, was brought to another ship for some different kind of experiments. All fanboy fantasy of course, but this also could have been a starting point for a sequel

The queen didn't survive the cloning process in Ripley Clones #1 - #7 as the individual chromosomes were still too mixed between embryo and host. However they were constantly coming closer to a viable queen as Ripley Clone #8 had very few remnants of the alien genome left in her meaning the queen got enough to survive.
