Why didn't they take parachutes?

In the final rescue, they knew time was critical, must have known there was a possibility there wouldn't be time to get everyone back. So surely the first guys over could have taken a few parachutes with them?

reply

I thought the same thing. I doubt that rope relay thing would have worked.

reply

They weren't high enough for parachutes to work.

reply

Does someone say that, in the film? When they first get there it seems plenty high enough.

reply

haven't thought about it before (maybe because landing on water sounds scaring), but it makes a lot fo sense! It's much more logical than the rope rescue.

reply

Er..it's a film!

reply

Yeah don't worry, I wasn't moaning about anything or saying it detracted from the action in any way. It was just something that popped into my head while watching it so I shared it. Nothing wrong with talking about what's going on in a film and wondering why, eh?

reply

I always assumed it was because they were so close to the ground

reply

They were over the Black Sea. By the time a rescue boat showed up they would have drowned or died from exposure (like what happened to the Titanic passengers).
