How many Golden Retrievers ended up dying after this movie?

You know how it goes, indulgent Mommy takes kid to see movie, kid cries and cries and cries for a Golden Retriever. GR grows up and starts taking big dumps in the backyard, requires long walks to work off their boundless energy, trips to the vet and groomer, all that stuff. Kid moves on to Guitar Hero, indulgent Mommy has no interest in taking care of the dog, dog goes to pound, dog dies. Or maybe dog ends up in Golden Retriever rescue program.

I am the proud owner for the past year of a 4 year old Golden Retriever who came from a friend's family whose 3 kids begged for a dog but lost interest in the hard work part of dog ownership. She's a great dog who just requires some attention and effort that I was willing to give.

Not trying to be preachy, I'm not criticizing the movie really I'm criticizing the "yes yes yes" parents who give their brats whatever they want without setting forth the ground rules.

Yea, I see were your coming from. Though I play Guitar Hero. lol But If I get a dog (which I just got a husky last October), I know what I have to do. I put time aside for her and everything. I also have a 5 year old black lab. The parents that say give their kids dogs that do not set ground rules should think "If (lets say Billy) Bill takes care of this dog for 2 weeks, loses interest, what will happen? Will I take care if it? Do I get rid of it?" Like seriously, I dont like it when people take their dogs to the pound. I volunteer at a no-kill animal adoption center, and Im glad when I see a dog come in from what looks like a horrible owner. I know its safe, but there are not many no-kill animal shelters sadly. Im a dog person. Bigtime dog person. I know the responsabilities it takes to own one. People need to think about that before they get a dog.

Unfortunately there will always be irresponsibly indulgent parents. They just give in rather than put up with the crying that in most cases won't last very long. I did hear that after the first Harry Potter movie came out there were a lot of kids wanting owls, and parents actually trying to get them. *rolls eyes*

Thank goodness for no-kill animal shelters. There should be more of them.

I'll have you know I was one of those kids that begged their parents for a golden retriever but it wasn't cause of Airbud, it was because of homeward bound (such a good movie) and do you know what? My mom never did get me a dog and I've accepted it. I'm 22 now and soon I will get one, and hell, it will have been worth the wait.

I begged for one, I even wrote a letter to my parents when I was a kid and I had one. I grew up with my dog and he is my best friend. I never let him down even if I'm at the University now and even during the exams when I'm short with time. Buddy was my inspiration when I was a kid and now it's my dog. For me, watching Air Bud and having a Golden Retriever probably is one of the best things I'll have in my life. But I agree with you, some kids grow up and get tired of their childhood dreams and abandon their dog. Fortunately, it wasn't the case for me as I live almost each day with my dog as if it was his last on Earth.
