Overall, I thought this was a perfectly enjoyable bit of rom-com fluff. However, in movies of this ilk, the ending, the romantic denoument is so crucial..and really I think they botched it with that Lassie metaphor. I wouldn't say it spoiled the movie for me but it did end it on a rather icky note, methinks. They really coulda done better.

Agreed. But I also felt that the music playing as well just made it worse, turned it into one of those cliche films. Up until this point it actually had a bit of depth (for a rom-com). The frenchman was a great character though, Tchéky Karyo played it so well. I also like Meg Ryan in this role, usually her characters are like a love struck (or starved) little girl (mentally) just aching to fall in love.
