Who are the 43 savages, that gave this movie a 1/10?...

Well?...Speak up...

I don't know that this movie deserves a mere 1/10, but based on delivery and compared with fr'instance the way Michael Moore raises and presents the material in his films what I remember about this film is that it wasn't all that memorable and came across as a blandish documentation of a very sick act of racism.

The difference between 4 Little Girls and the Michael Moore documentaries is so vast that there's hardly any similarity between them. Moore's work is deliberately provocative. It's satire in the form of well made propaganda. Moore's intent is not to convey the facts of the matter but to change the minds of his viewers. He's very good at making these films--they convey his moralistic outrage at injustices in our society.

Spike Lee's documentary 4 Little Girls seeks to inform the audience about a horrific event from the early 1960s. He seeks to preserve the historical memory of this event so that it's not forgotten. He explains the impact of the church bombing by interviewing those affected--family members and others--so that his audience can see the impact directly. 4 Little Girls is one of the most artful documentaries I've seen. Few films tell such a tragic tale with such heart and human insight. On a scale of 1 to 10 I rate it a 10.

" On a scale of 1 to 10 I rate it a 10. "

Same here. Well, maybe nine, but only because I have seen "When the Levees Broke."

In any case, Lee removed himself from the story and allowed the subjects of the documentary to tell their won story. And allowed us our own response, rather than telling us what it should be.

I dig a good Michael Moore flick, same as I like a Snickers Bar now and then. But Lee is more and more demonstrating himself to be a master of the documentary film. Ain't no comparison.

I originally gave it a 8/10. But to help compensate for those ridiculous souls who dared to give it 1/10, I changed my vote to 10/10.

This is a good documentary.

Probably some white racists out there, you know, who easily get irked when the crimes of their fathers are exposed on film.

I don't know why this lovely movie/documentary crossed my mind today...but I had to look it up and read about it. After seeing this thread, I gave it a 10. I remember sitting on my living room floor watching it with tears in my eyes. I was born and raised in northern California and had no idea what was going on in our country at that time. I don't think I'll ever understand it, either. Mr. Lee did a great job telling a very sad and tragic story of something that should have NEVER happened. My heart honestly went out to the families and friends of those four beautiful angels. If memory serves, one of them would be my age right now.

BTW...I'm Caucasian...and one of my very best friends on Earth was an African American girl who I was proud to call my friend. (She passed away recently and I felt a huge loss.) Not all whites are racists. We were brought up better than that.

I wasn't even aware of this documentary, but watching Oprah's Next Chapter on OWN TV and her recent interview with Spike Lee, they talked about it and I decided to rent it. I love good documentaries, and this one was excellent, so I gave it a rating of TEN, however, this is IMDb and ratings of one, is not uncommon. If you look at this site TOP-5 rated films, you are going to see that many people gave those great films, ratings of one. ALL films on this site, no matter how great they are, have some people that gave it a ONE rating, that's why one can't go by these ratings when trying to select a film to watch.

Oh no need to ask such question, no surprise at all. There are 2800 people who gave 10/10 to The Birth of a Nation

reply

probably rated so cause it was a downer.
