The fact that this movie didn't win the Oscar and never got the widespread praise it deserves shows that nothing has changed in America and racism is stil alive and well. The bombing was a national tragedy and this film should have received more recognition

I wouldn't go THAT far. I mean, if the Academy were really that prejudice then they wouldn't have nominated it in the first place. They also seem to have a thing for stuff related to the Holocaust.. since that was the topic for the film beat this one for Best Documentary.
It's certainly one of the best documentaries I've ever seen, but I think Hoop Dreams still remains my all time favorite.
When the Leeves Broke was a better MADE documentary. I believe this story is so heartbreaking almost anyone could do a good documentary on it but it isn't "the best ever" nor even Spike's best, in my opinion. Obviously your opinion is different but seriously claiming it's racism that kept it from winning is small minded. Does the story itself deserve to be made into the best documentary ever? Absolutely. But this documentary was compelling due to those involved retelling their story-which Spike Lee was brilliant enough to let shine-not in the documentary itself. The members of the Academy voted on the documentary not the heartbreaking story.
