So who all is dead and why?

At the time the film as released, Hume Cronyn was in his 80's, Jack Lemon, George C. Scott, and Ossie Davis were probably in their mid to late 70's, so regardless of their specific conditions, it's fair to say "old age" as the reason they're no longer with us.

James Gandolfini died two years ago of a heart attack, he was around 50 years old at the time, I think.

I think that the rest of the cast is still with us, including Armin Mueller Stahl who must be in his mid to late 80's by now.

All are/were very good actors, but these are hardly their best roles or their best film, as it's basically a poorly executed attempt to contemporize the 1957 original film.
