[Spoilers below]

Gwen Moss had said earlier in the story, as had her father, that Gwen's iconic piano had been created to court her grandmother, by a Lithuanian immigrant named Faustus Dawkontes.

(Surname spelled phonetically, as I haven't a script ... though I might go to Hollywood Boulevard and buy a copy, as it's that good. Thank you again, Winnie Holzman. But I digress.)

Nick Dawkan's mother tells him, as they're reminiscing over a family scrapbook, that he strongly resembles his ... grandfather Faustus.

At the end, Gwen is naturally taken aback when Nick introduces himself, taking up his actual surname for the first time in the movie: "Nicholas Dawkontes. ... It's Lithuanian," he adds, to the stunned look on her face. "I know," she says.

And he's clearly thinking: Just how likely would it be for her to know that? He's immediately intrigued, and after the Nicotine Anonymous meeting ends for the night, they're talking with animated gestures, paying rapt attention to each other ...
