It just ends abruptly and 'Wire in the Blood' also made by the same company and also staring Robson Green took its place.
They are very similar and Wire in the Blood just continues the 'mood' but makes it better, clearly has a bigger budget, and it's in widescreen too.
Touching Evil looks as though it may have been filmed in widescreen (rumour has it that it has since been broadcast in widescreen in Australia), but alas isn't available in anything other that 1:33 in the UK/USA.
I remember during the credits when the last episode was broadcast on ITV in the late 90s it said Touching Evil would return soon, i think they just chose not to make any more which is a shame, but how many times can you do the 'burnt out cop' routine?

I could tell you. Then I'd have to kill you.
I'd actually forgotten all about this series until I saw it pop up on the Dram channel here in the U.K the other week.
Came here wondering why only a handful of episodes were made. Though I guess it is obvious that Wire in The Blood is a kind of spiritual successor of sorts, it has a very similar look and feel - not to mention atmosphere.
Shame Wire in the Blood still isn't being made though. I know a lot of folk out there look down their noses as Robson Green, but I think he plays these parts particularly well.
