Spawn 4????

Ok. I love Spawn. Love the series. But with 3: The Ultimate Battle, what the hell's up with the ending? How do you end a series like that? Can someone tell me what might happen, if it's in the books? You can't end something like that with a cliffhanger.

Relax, it wasn't intentional. HBO canned the show before Season 4 could happen. A continuation was in fact planned.

reply

Whats up with Gislef? S/he said its better than the movie! Spawn is great what-so-ever, nobody should go back on with Spawn. Todd Mc Farlene is great.

Ah, not sure if anyone knows this yet, but there's some news from the McFarlane site:

Hey, thats really cool.. but, it doesn't say anything about when the stuff is coming out. Being march when the article was written and now sept. i would hope for some more shows. but, i guess i don't have HBO now anyway.. so it doesn' really matter

I fail to see the the cliffhanger or the crappy ending. A friend of mine had the same impression. After showing him the series he said: "Well, let's hope Spawn 4 comes out quickly."
I think you all weren't paying enough attention to the series. The main point of it is not the weapon shipment, nor the heaven and hell struggle, it is about Spawn's desicion how he will go on from his newly aquired state. Cogliostro and the clown are trying to influence him from early on. Later others do that as well - for example granny had a great effect on him.
At the end he realizes that no matter how hard he tries, he will only fail (all the good things get corrupted - mind Cogliostros words with the violence a hellspawn attracts around him). Both, heaven and hell are after him, that is why he has to give up on his unholy powers and regain his humanity.

I'd find it pretty lame to actually see the final battle - imagine all the demons and hunters fighting .. nah, that wouldn't be the Spawn series we've watched and enjoyed so far.
Or how do you imagine it going on?

reply

I think that article is talking about a whole new series seperating itself from the HBO one

reply

It's blatantly talking about a continuation of the series rather than a new one to cover the same ground. It's just being produced by another company (not HBO).

As for the ending, I doubt very much we'll ever see the "final" battle between heaven & earth - the comic book to my knowledge never did it, it's not something I'd imagine they'll do.

I do, however, think the cliffhanger was a lot more than that. What about the child? Heaven and Earth have something else to set their sights on, and all hell is about to break loose..

I'm not a comic book fan, but damn I love this series. I can't wait.

reply

What's wrong with that? As long as the production value is the same or better...

reply

I really didn't like the third season. i'm sorry it just was alittle to out there for me. I think that they really shuold do another season though.

I truly hope this comes out soon. I have been dying for a continuation for the last 7 years. I loved the hell out of this show. I also hope that they get all of the same actors back for the voices or at the very least for keith david to continue voicing. Lets hope things progress with this soon.

reply

They are continuing it with Spawn: The Animation

reply

I've wnet to sapwn.com, and they ahve said that Spawn:the Animation well not follow the HBO show. but Kieth David well do the vocie for Spawn so don't worry, hope it's good.

reply

yeah, Todd McFarlane said plain himself that it will start new, will not be a continuation and they are still trying to figure out what kind of animation to use for it then they are going to go round networks to see who wants to show it.

I'm torn. I find that there are certain series that benefit from their style. Spawn benefited from it's "anime colored but american stylized" pallet, while teen titans has a "anime by way of comedy anime" vibe that really works. I don't want Amerime (the name i gave americans doing anime stylized cartoons) but I do want a certain Japanese aesthetic (like the first one, it made the whole thing feel a little "off-kilter", so to speak. It felt odd as if the world really was on the verge of something great or traumatic, like the feeling you get before you throw-up...it could be a good vomit that heals or a bad vomit that makes things worse). I personally want the same animators not because I want the continuation necessarily but because I love the style.

I loved the dark animation of the series. I hope they dont go all Japanese. I hate their animations. Everything looks the same. I was disappointed by the ending too but I guess we cant do anything.

reply

SEAL412, I suggest that you go deeper on japanese animation ... they master this art and, IMHO, japanese animation is far more complex and developed than any other (although there are also bad ones).

Few good examples are:

SERIES:
- Cowboy Bebop.
- Ergo Proxy (airing now).
- Samurai Champloo.
- Berserk.
- Hanada.
- Evangelion.
- Last Exile.

MOVIES & SHORT FILMS:
- All from Hayao Miyazaki (director). Mononoke Hime, Nausicaa and the valley of the wind, Howl's moving castle, Spirited Away, Tonari no totoro, etc.
- Akira.
- Ghost in the Shell.
- Jin Roh, The wolf brigade.
- Blood: the last vampire.
- Grave of the Fireflies.
- Final Fantasy VII advent children.
- Animatrix (yes, the best animations from Animatrix have all japanese credits).

Try them!!!

I remember the first season of Spawn was made-in-America. I'm also presuming that Korea was more involved with the action sequences as opposed to talking ones.

reply

Funny, I met one of the original animators for this series in my bar, and yes, the first season was made in America. He only worked on the first season, which, granted was a little rougher around the edges, but it had that WB style (which I like) and he was a WB animator, so I guess that follows.... I wonder, does anyone have any idea whether there is still a continuation/reprise to this series in development?

reply

Man, I dunno... but I've been waiting for years for a follow-up. I still have my original VHS copies, as well as the DVDs I bought to replace the VHS copies as they became worn from watching them so much. To say I'm a fan is an understatement. The HBO series stands as one of my fave animated series of all time.

All things considered, I'd like to see Peter Chung collaborate with Todd MacFarlane on the next evolution of the Spawn story. Back when the series came out, it was much harder to address the later chapters in the tale of the Spawn that was once Al Simmons. I didn't follow the comics as closely as I would have liked, but from what I understand, Al did eventually descend into Malbolgia's particular layer of Hell, only to eventually slay him. Some time later, Spawn earned his redemption, for whatever that was worth in the end.

Anyway, then there's all of the action-figure branches of Spawn, which in itself lends to all kinds of parallel stories to Al Simmon's own... different ages, different demonic/angelic influences, etc. I've collected a few of the more elaborate pieces over the years, though it's been several years since I've bought anything new. But one of my faves is my Samurai Spawn, which has artistic touches that bring to mind anime pieces like "Ninja Scroll" or "Legend of the Overfiend" (nasty piece, that last one... check it out if you can find it. It's Rare!!!).

Considering all the of the 2012 hysteria these last few years, now would be the perfect time to rev another Spawn related animated series, or even a live action series, bringing together the best of ideas from the Spawn Motion Picture, but with a lot more CGI, and bring back Michael Nicolosi for the voice of The Clown / Violator... as much as I love John Leguizamo's acting work, Nicolosi captured the Clown's nature much better... much darker.

reply

they will hand the animation over to Korea, like they did last time.

reply

I think it's funny you should say that. Madhouse did all the animation for Spawn. Oh and they did Ninja Scroll, Wicked City, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust...

reply

I'd like to see more Angela in a possible Spawn 4.

reply

Japanese animation is superior, and Disney makes outstanding animation. On the other hand, while I like and own the Spawn animated series, you can tell its overseas (probably Korean) animation. Oh, and here's hoping they make a Season 4, though I'm not holding my breath.

reply

Once I finished watching the Spawn box set I set about trying to buy spawn 4 online but to my surprise no more SPAWN!!

This link was published 2004

http://www.spawn.com/news/news6.aspx?id=12367

Has there been any movement/news in this project?

I don't understand with all the awards and with an ending like that there isn't as least one more Spawn!

Why not?

And I'm not too sure about this new Spawn (if it ever happens) I want the same dark style wrapping the series up nicely.

What about Spawn 2 : The Movie? T McF mentions it on extras. Did it even happen?

Best animated show ever!!!1

Not really.

After all this series was basically a more detailed GIJoe/Transformers style.

Look at some of the Exo Squad cartoons and you also see a similar style.

Japanese are masters of Anime...but they are NOT the masters of all animation. Jeeez bloody fanboys.

There are different styles of animation. You watch a Disney show and you will see a style of animation that may seem superior, but what your not realising is that it takes talent to do both styles.

Think about it. What if all japanese studios decided to draw Marvel style. No DOE eyes, no huge breasts, no repeating backgrounds of "BLLLEEEEAAAARRRGGGHH!!!!" attacks etc. They would find it difficult to adapt.

Myself im moreof a fan of the Marvel/Darkhorse style. Remember this arugument is like saying "Picaso was better than DaVinci!"....in your eyes yes.

p.s Anyone else think its odd when japanese animation shows a busy street with NO ONE but the main character moving? i do. but thats my view.

Wow, how many years later, and we still have nothing.

reply

no kidding. years and months later, and us spawn fans still are dying for something new. come on mcfarlane give it to us!

reply

McFarlane sucks ass, at least the website should give some status report, if the project is dead, in production or whathever the *beep* they are doing for a sequel. Last news in spawn.com are from 2005...

reply

Wow... it's been almost 5 years since the news about a new Spawn Animated Series came out. Needless to say, I don't think this is going to happen and that the only Animated Spawn we will ever have will be what HBO gave us. Then again, Hollywood has run out of ideas so perhaps this will be turned into something down the road.

"According to an interview with Todd McFarlane at the Wolverine premier in Tempe Arizona, "the Spawn Animation is gonna get up and going by the end of this year". This quote is taken from an interview with Todd McFarlane dated April 27, 2009"

I'm crossing my fingers for a new animated spawn. Has McFarlane said anything else in interviews?
