Neither Stephen King or Kubrick Actually Changed Alot From The Novel
Kubrick's just took most of it out (the stuff that happened during the first month that the Torrance family was in the hotel) which was necessary to not make the 1980 an extremely long movie. The only real differences are Halloran dying, Jack using an axe, and the change from room 217 to 237. The Stephen King miniseries(which I love as well) was just putting back in what Kubrick took out. I saw both versions of the Torrance story as equals in my critical sense.
