Roar TV Series On DVD

Hey everyone,

I just started a petition to get Roar on DVD. The link is: http://www.PetitionOnline.com/roar1997/petition.html

Who knows- if we get enough signatures Universal may release it. I figure it's worth a shot.

Online petitions are 100% WORTHLESS. Don't waste your time. The person receiving it has no idea if that petition was signed by 1 person or 1,000,000. So they won't even get seen by anyone with any clout.

If you want to have any chance, find other ways. Maybe even an ACTUAL petition.

No offense, but chances are, you won't be successful. The show didn't last for a reason. Bad ratings. Unless its run on Sci-Fi does extremely well, it would not be cost effective to put together a DVD.

reply

They put out the old Planet of the Apes series from the 70s. Anything is possible.

reply

maybe there is a shot.

The only real shot you have of getting a Roar is if Heath Leger keeps moving up the ladder of superstardom. But based on the last 18 months or so, that may not be happening anymore. It really is time he moves away from his Knight's Tale castmates and starts making movies that DON'T involve Shannyn Sossamon or even Mark Addy, who is in an upcoming movie with both Heath and Shannyn.

There were 13 episodes, and it looks like that UPN series "Firefly" is coming to DVD when it was cancelled early in its season, so maybe there is hope for a "Roar" DVD.

but I agree, if it didn't do well on Sci-Fi this past spring it may not have a very good chance.

reply

I dont even know where to start, firstly Firefly wasn't a UPN series, it was also a FOX series. But you see Firefly has a large and extremely loyal fan base. Which warranted for a DVD release. Firefly was the most TiVoed show when it was out. It's because FOX can't give shows a chance before putting them into the Friday night slot of death. There is enough of a fanbase to even put a movie on, I havent heard anything from Roar fans ever. Firefly fans called out for something to be done since FOX screwed the pooch so to speak about the handling of Firefly. I watched the show when it was on and thought it was all right but when I watched the DVD in the order the shows were supposed to be played it was so much better. I'd like to see a Roar DVD but something tells me that isn't going to be happening anytime soon, which is sad. It was a decent show for it's time that just wasnt given a chance.

reply

Firefly certainly was a UPN series. Unless by fox you mean UPN.

reply

Unless by UPN you mean Fox 8-} Sorry, "Firefly" was on Fox; I remember thinking how cool it was that Joss Whedon had shows on 3 different networks ("Buffy" on UPN, "Angel" on WB, and "Firefly" on Fox). Of course, this whole thing is totally off the point entirely 8-}

IMHO, I would love to get "Roar" on DVD. Also IMHO, I have a somewhat better chance of disproving any of Stephen Hawking's theories 8-} Unfortunate, but true; "Roar" simply doesn't have the fanbase that "Firefly" did. Fox lost a lot of money on "Firefly" by cancelling it with unaired eps (Almost as much as they lost in advertiser revenue by jumping it around the schedule and sending it to the Friday death slot so it couldn't build up even more of a following) and was smart enough to realize they could recoup their losses by releasing a DVD set. There simply isn't enough of a demand for a "Roar" DVD set to make it worthwhile to whoever currently owns the rights to the show or any distribution.

However, I'm still gonna go sign that petition on TVShowsOnDVD.com... every little bit helps 8-}

I know that in some areas where Fox isn't a regular channel, they air certain shows on the local UPN network. One of my friends I made from Northern Ca. told me that the Simpsons eps aired on UPN, and there was no real Fox near them.

That might be all the confusion here, but I know Firefly was on Fox around here (L.A. area).

The episode count doesn't matter. I mean look at Kindred: The Embraced. It only had 8 Episodes and it has its own DVDs. So anything can happen.

So, I'd love to see Roar have its own DVDs as well. It has more episodes than Kindred did.

Actually, you are 100% WRONG about online petitions being worthless.

If you look at this article on MSN.COM about cancelled shows,

http://entertainment.msn.com/news/article.aspx?news=150654

they actually mention a show being brought out on DVD specifically because of an online petition.

'"Freaks and Geeks," the best TV show, period, about teenage life, is finally getting its DVD release in early April because 40,000 people subscribed to a Web list demanding it.'

Personally, I loved Roar. I don't know if it could get enough support to be brought out on DVD, but I would buy it if it did.

reply

So much for online petitions being worthless........thanks to the interest in Roar and voting on sites like tvshowsondvd.com Roar is on DVD now. "

I just picked it up and I'm delighted that I get to see the complete series again.

reply

Just because something is really bad, doesn't mean it won't make it to dvd. This show was REALLY BAD, but then, so was 'Firefly' and they even gave them the money to make a movie of that, never mind it's being available on DVD! And I find it hard to believe anyone would spend money on the 'Planet of the Apes' series. What's next? 'My Mother, the Car' on DVD!!!

reply

Neither Roar or Firefly were bad! I wonder what kind of television you like anyways...

I bought the Planet of the Apes TV series and what a great buy too.

I also believe that I heard some report that My Mother, the Car may be coming to DVD.

What I want to know is why you are posting here? Sure anybody could have an opinion but you just say this show was really bad and that's about all. (then again i have seen a couple of your posts and you seem like a half-wit troll)

reply

I would like to sign a petition like that, but i dont know how. please respond!

Got my copy! Love it!

reply

I just got my copy, and was very excited to see it on DVD. I had been hoping for it's release since the show went off the air. But is it just my or is one episode missing??? One the Disc One case there are five episode summaries, the last being 'Sweet Brigit' but when playing the disc I found only four episodes. I though it might just be a typo and that episode was actually on Disc Two, but when I put in Disc Two "Sweet Brigit' was not listed. Anyone else's copy like this????

reply

It's out of order on the third disk.

reply

So what is the actual order of the episodes?

reply

Here is what is on the DVD boxes:

Disc One:

Pilot
Projector
The Chosen
Banshee
Sweet Brigit

Disc Two:

Red Boot
The Spear of Destiny
The Eternal
Doyle's Solution

Disc Three

Traps
Daybreak
The Cage
Tash

But when you insert the DVDs into the players, here's what you really get:

Disc One:

Pilot
Projector
The Chosen
Banshee

Disc Two:

Doyle's Solution
Red Boot
The Spear of Destiny
The Eternal

Disc Three:

Tash
Traps
Daybreak
The Cage
Sweet Brigit (Bridget -- according to the Sci-Fi channel & IMDb.com)

Well your petition was not in vain! "Roar" is now on DVD, just got my copy! I would guess that the main reason for releasing the series on DVD would also have to be the rising star power of Heath Ledger. But I would not call the passion and love fans have for their series worthless or useless. Hey, "Serenity" got made largely because the fans demanded somekind of conclusion or continuation to "Firefly".

So in the future don't consider any efforts useless or pointless?!?!?

reply

It's useless in the form of simply getting online signatures together. It can easily be faked. This show was not put on DVD because of the fans that were making a petition.

Am just watching the DVD now. been so long since i saw it on tv i'd almost forgotten who was in it! some amusing guests if you think of when it was made and what they're doing now.
Yeah the episode list really confused me, to the extend of searching disk one for an easter egg trying to find that extra episode. tis good tho.

and if you're wondering why they finally put it on dvd just look at the back of the box. it mentions Heath Ledger getting the Oscar Nom. so they obviously took the chance that people would be interested in his previous projects and put it into production! shame i couldn't get it in region 2 but am glad to finally have a copy!!
