Roar The Movie

I like this series no matter what anyone says. I think it had great potential and like many of you said- poor publicity.

There was another show on SciFi I really liked, you may have heard of it- Farscape. After the show was cancelled a movie came out to conclude the storyline. That movie was funded by fans. Yes, the whole movie was funded by the fans from what I am told.

Does anyone know of a good website that might be able to influence the cast and crew to make a movie if the fans fund it? Serenity was a huge hit and that series only had about 11-13 epidsodes. Maybe we can do something instead of complain (no offense to anyone).

There's no way Heath Ledger would return either.

It pains me to say it, Tron, but you are right. Not only has his salary quotient increased dramatically since Brokeback Mountain and all the nominations he received for his work in it, but he's famous for not wanting to repeat himself. He's also refered to some of his early work as "the blond bimbo roles" and even said he couldn't act in those days, so, no matter how good the fans think he was, it doesn't sound like he remembers it as a pleasant experience and would probably not want to revisit it.

Plus, he's dead.

You could look at the dates of the thread.

Sadly, I also have to say no. Plus, it's just been too long. BUT I think it'd be great if some of us fans could get together and write some virtual seasons or something!

Truthfully, maybe the actors want to reprise thier roles or maybye they don't, I do not know, but I do not want guess either way. All I know is that I liked the show for over two years since I saw it start running on Scifi channel. The only thing that needs to be said is that, This show HAS a runway to take off on, all it needs is the vehicle to carry it. (Straight to the big screen. Hint!Hint!)

If Heath wouldn't come back for a movie funded by fans, just to shoot a quick movie in which he already had the role.. he's got some serious problems. Fans are one of the things that gets him where he is, and he if doesnt see that he's blind. I've personally never seen the show, so I could care less.. but if I was Heath and the fans funded the entire movie by themselves, i'd be back in a second to support my fans..

reply

Absolutely agree. Besides, the cast looks like they had such fun together! Who wouldn't want to reunite with a cast that felt like family?

reply

I can't be 100% sure but I thought in an interview once Heath said he might consider it.

actually you should check your numbers snowman. Serenity was not a blockbuster... moneywise... but it DID make it's money back. It made almost enough to cover the costs, then DVD sales kicked it over the top.
and it did Damn well for a series that was unfairly canned before the first season was aired... thanks Fox.

As for fascape? I didn't like the show and would see no future for a movie, but people thought the same about firefly (the morons) so go for it.

and let's not forget, the fans played a major role in getting serenity made but without Joss and Universal we'd still be without a movie.

Serenity's made it's money back through DVD sales now. So much so that they're considering making a second, straight to DVD movie.

reply

have we noticed a theme? Roar was on fox so was firefly. fox have a serious habit of cancelling good shows for no reason.

and farscape was a travesty. i love that show! but then it did give ben browder the chance to be in sg1 so its not all bad.

I have still never forgiven the geniuses at FOX for canceling Space Above and Beyond. I think drunken chimps could do a better job than these guys.

Farscape was a good show but the movie was incredibly poor. I think the way they finished it in the series was so much better.

Plus Serenity killed the two best characters. Is there any point in watching episodes set in the future of the movie (alledged there has been talk of movie/ show set inbetween Firefly and Serenity). Maybe Adam need to take up the funny and holy man combined role. But he is too stupid.

so what would be the point?

I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every moment of it.

Well, since Heath Ledger is kind of dead, I'd bet money he won't be reprising Conor after all. I could see why he'd put down his earlier roles. In the pilot episode, Heath was like some skinny teenager running around, not too noteworthy.

In Roar, Mr. Ledger got noticeably more skilled in acting from the first episode to the last episode. Seems as if he was taking classes during filming the show or something. His hard work paid off in Brokeback Mountain for sure.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

I disagree. Heath was the only person in the first episode who could act at all. He took inane dialog and made it plausible. Only Longinus could really be called the other "actor" in the show. The others were embarrassingly awful.

Heath did mature during those 13 episodes. He wasn't a "skinny" teenager by any means -- though he did continually grow more muscular from episode to episode, as boys do as that age (ohhh, lucky Lisa Zane who had a relationship with him!).

We all look back at our early careers and cringe. But there is something about that "freshness" that is so appealing...

I'm rewatching this series on Netflix. I first discovered it when Syfy (back when they were SciFi) and I loved it but I was in high school. And with this show, the acting leaves a lot to be desired, however, no one can plausibly say that Hercules: The Legendary Journeys or Xena: Warrior Princess had acting that was even a little bit better.

I hope that Shaun Cassidy will either re-pitch this as an updated series with a new cast or a film. The plot and storyline are very intriguing and I'd love to see it updated, preferrably with a better budget and not so much network interference.
