One Season?

Did this show really only last one season?

yep only one season...reruns on sci fi

FOX only intended it to be a summer special. The contracts they laid out were only for the summer and by the time they realized what they had, they couldn't keep the writers, the actors, etc. on to make it a regular series. I guess they figured the costs of getting the original cast and crew together plus maintaining the show and redoing the final episodes and find a way to squeeze it into the regular line up was not worth it.

I wish it had gone on. I was planning my summer vacation around this when it came out.

Does anyone know exactly how many episodes there are? Sci Fi is rerunning it now.

No, FOX wanted it to be a long term series. They were planning on introducing it as a summer series and finish the season in January. It premiered to awesome ratings on a Monday slot, and because it was a hit FOX moved it to Friday, hoping to improve ratings. Instead, it performed badly and FOX couldn't afford to keep it. However, they DID like it, they just weren't willing to pay for advertising and move it back to where it would survive. FOX's problem is that they panic too easily.

I'm glad FOX screwed up with Roar. Otherwise, Heath Ledger wouldn't have been available for Brokeback Mountain, one of my all time favorite love story movies.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

errrr, Roar was 1997 and Brokeback Mountain was 2005.

So what's your point? More than one long running TV show lasted more than 8 years.

I really wish it had been more than one season, it definitely should have been. I doubt it would have lasted eight years though, so it wouldn't have interfered with the movies Heath did in the last few years of his career, including BbM. Roar was in the same genre of shows like Xena and Hercules, which were quite popular yet only went for six seasons, so I think Roar would have run for four or five seasons at most.
