Why was it cancelled?

I loved it myself and I enjoyed the arcs. The Avatar arc was the only one that was awful though.

I especially loved Rafe/Alison/Caleb/Livvie.

So was it low ratings the reason it was cancelled? Also, is it possible to get clips.

Port Charles should not have been cancelled, Passion sux and IT should be cancelled NOW! I really miss the arcs from PC, and the great characters!

some people say it was cancelled because it was nominated for best show at the emmys the same year and did not win and since they did not win abc ended the show

That is a complete and ridiculous reason, as shows don't get canceled because they lose some award.

The reasons ABC probably canceled it is because it was to expensive or because of low ratings.

From interviews I have read from former castmates, Port Charles was going to be cancelled but when it was nominated for best show, rumor had it that if Port Charles won... They were going to keep it around for a little while longer to see if things improved.

Thanks for the information.

That's disappointing. :(

I'm glad they cancelled it.

I'm glad they cancelled it too. This show sucked balls. Not as bad as Passions, but still pretty horrendous. That whole vampire storyline was so laughably bad. And it just kept getting worse from there.

I loved the show. But it was progressivly getting more and more outrages... and not in a good way. Especially because it was spinoff of another show that took palce in the same town and hospital. But on GH there were never vampires running around the halls of the hospital... so wtf? It didn't make any sense.

As to why it was cancelled:

The ratings were not very high and it was costing them a lot of money. They tried saving the show by only filming half the year. That means double the speed for the half of the year they were filming (which is really tough on the cast and crew) and then closing down the set/studio for the otehr half of the year. But when that was failing to work and the show was still sinking they opted to cancel it.

I wish the writers knew about the cancelation sooner so that they could have written an ending for the show and tied up the loose ends. Of course if the show was along the same lines as GH (as in no vampies, slayers, angels, etc.) they could have always carried it over into GH to tie up the loose ends. (Have an ending of sorts for certian characters or bring some of them over to GH full time to continue on in their lives pretty effortlessly.)

Unfortunately though, two things happened, it was cancelled after the endeing of The Gift was already filmed (again they took 6 months of the year off) so they couldn't go back and tie up the loose ends on the show and it was completely in a different world than GH so they couldn't blend the two together.

So it's unfortunate that I don't ever get to know if Alison is carrying Caleb's baby.......

Because that show SUCKS ! All that arcs in the last years are BORING !

First of all, the show needs to focuses about the mobsters and GH about Doctors!
second, They rewrites history too often! Third, Supernatural don't make a GOOD SOAPS! Ex: Passions! Fourth, killing characters we likes (Eve, Karen, etc...)!
Fifth, despite un great cast they gives them horrible materials! Sixth, not enough
crossover with GH! Since this is in the same City! Seven, original cast was all fired in the first few years!

The reason the show is cancelled is because today's like Barf (where people eat till the puke I am not making this up couldn't if I tried)are so much cooler then vampiers and time travel right..............*crickets chirp*.....................anyone.........*one man coughs*.................

please don't flame me I am being sarcastic.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING UNDER HERE FOR?!

Port Charles was a HEL OF A LOT better than the horrific Passions, which was so cheap looking and the storylines were so stupid...They only had about 2 actors on the show who could actually act, and after Timmy (the doll) died off the show and in real life (which I find so sad and eerie at the same time)the show went downhill. Tabitha/Timmy were so funny in their scenes...but years later the show was like watching something they (writers) threw together and made no sense..The girl who plays Cara on AMC was on the show I forget her name on Passions but she couldn't act and still can't-- I don't what these casting actors were thinking when they hired her as Jake's ex-wife on AMC...

Port Charles at least had arcs to follow and had wonderful actors as well that were believable...yeah they had vampires, werewolves, avatars (which btw I hated the avatar arc) but they killed off Karen (Scott Baldwin's daughter), which I think was a very bad move bc they could have brought her on GH...I loved Rafe/Alison -- these two actors had amazing chemistry together and fit perfect as did Jack and Livvie --perfect.. I hated Lucy/Kevin breaking up and of course they killed of Eve which really really upset me. I think putting and Lucy/Ian together was a disgusting move bc Ian's love of life was Eve -- hell they did a whole arc on them, they were soulmates...Kevin/Lucy were also soulmates and will always be in my mind..I use to love the Kevin/Lucy & Felicia/Mac scenes and adventures together on GH -- those were the good old days....Port Charles was my favorite esp bc of Rafe/Alison they had me glued to the telly when they shared scenes and I miss it sooooo much :)

I agree Port Charles was wonderful and better than Passions.

This was also my main gripe about turning it into a supernatural soap, it was a spin-off set in the same city as General Hospital yet none of this stuff crossed over? It started off as a show about the hospital, interns, staff and their relationships and while it did have some moments that were not realistic (it was still a soap after all) for the most part, it was still believable. Although I did like Allison and Rafe as a couple, I started to lose interest once the vampire stuff started. And I say this as a fan of shows like The X-Files and Buffy The Vampire Slayer, but those shows were obviously intended to have supernatural stories and sub-plots. In the first few years of the series, there was very little suggestion that Port Charles was supposed to be like Dark Shadows and Passions.

My favorite storylines were all the pre-arc ones - by the end of 2000 I was becoming disillusioned with the show, as one of my favorite couples (Frank and Courtney) were ruined and Courtney was written out of the series in such a inept and insulting way (she was literally there one day and gone the next, without a real send-off), and I think in retrospect the character was deliberately written into a corner, as the writers were too lazy to give her more of a story and they probably knew at that point that they were going to take the show in another direction and maybe they thought the character didn't fit anymore. Frank was my favorite male character (Chris being a close second) but toward the end of Courtney's run he became increasingly self-righteous and hypocritical toward her, conveniently forgetting his own past transgressions, and the fact that he had conspired and plotted with her to break up Joe and Karen, and to steal the DL56 money from Chris. They also had a history which could have been expanded upon. I never bought the Frank/Karen pairing and I feel that Frank was ruined before he was made into the Avatar (and later, a vampire) although I'm sure Jay Pickett was sexy as hell walking on the dark side. I never took to Ian either; I never understood why the writers didn't give Chris and Eve a chance as a couple when Julie was out of the picture (I was sorry to see Julie go to, but at least she made a brief return to wrap things up and say goodbye to Chris). As I said, I liked Rafe/Allison but I hated how Livvie turned on her "best friend" and don't even get me started on the Tess nonsense!

Having said all of that, I agree that it's unfortunate that the show's cancellation left viewers hanging. A TV movie to wrap things up might have given fans some sense of closure.
