DVD...

I know this show didn't really last long, but does anyone think they would ever consider releasing it on DVD? I really enjoyed this show and would love to watch it again on DVD...

this really needs to hit dvd considering all the fairly big names involved in it's creation (even if it is sort of considered a black eye by some of them). you cant even get bootlegs of this damn thing anywhere, not ebay, not conventions, not nowhere.

there was one episode that starred jeffrey combs and was directed by the guy that made the house on haunted hill remake that i remember really liking. plus the opening sequence to the show was really cool and had a great title theme by danny elfman (that you also cant find anywhere). i was super pissed when i realized i had taped over my old copies of some of the episodes with some bruce campbell Sci-Fi channel movie and a few epsiodes of Pinky and the Brain.

I was 14 when this show aired. I almost feel like this show was important in my development. The title sequence and style of the show sticks with me to this day, and it's weird that it doesn't go away. I would be interested in a DVD release so I can see where my mind was at back then.

reply

Me too, I was about the same age when I saw the show. I've been trying to find the episodes on the 'net, to no avail, and I never had a chance to tape any episodes. Crap! This needs to happen!

I watched this show when I visited my cousin in 97. I remember the creepy episode with the robot nanny and all the other robots in the neighborhood ganging up on her. The opening intro escapes my memory right now, but I would for sure buy a DVD set if it's to be released. Someone should start an online petition like they did for TFTC to get this out.

The only episode I saw from this series (and for which I'm desperate to procure the DVD set if and when it's released) was 'Dream of Doom' which had Kurtwood Smith (Red Forman from That 70s Show) in a nightmarishly surreal variation on the 'Groundhog Day' stuck-in-a-repeating-day scenario. Really good stuff!

reply

This show was awesome, a dvd has to be made....

reply

Same here. Let's face it the only reason someone would sit through this cheesy show is if they were 12-14 and hoping to see some nudity. For this reason I especially remember the episode with the sex robot that the guy gets "stuck" on him. I think it starred Kevin Pollack, which is kind of amazing, considering he had just been in The Usual Suspects.

I agree that this show needs to be on dvd or at least digitally archived somewhere. The same goes for the HBO show "Strangers" too.

This was one of those great non-basic cable scifi/horror shows that I loved so much watching late at night years ago. I have looked for copies of the episodes a few places but with no luck. I have to admit in my opinion this show had a short but sweet life span even though it never got the credit it deserved.

A DVD release would a be great for the fans of this genre. And for those of you who are curious and haven't seen it, the best I can describe it is "Masters of Horror" but instead of horror it's more scifi.

hopefully the dvd will get released, but I have already contacted HBO about releasing in and didn't get a positive response.

I sent emails to their online store asking if they had any plans to release this on dvd, or would be willing to sell the dvd in as a specialty item. I received a canned responce about "their catalog is constantly being updated, and they did not know when this would be avaliable" canned answer.

You can find it if you look hard enough, the Internet is your friend. I still think they chose the absolute worst title in the world for this series.

I would like to go back in time and kill the idiot who created the term "reimagining."

reply

I too hope for the best...It's very weird that nobody has this on the web...NOT ONE! I dare you to find ANY copy available of any episode anywhere! Strange indeed.

I've got four episodes on VHS, which I fortunately had the oportunity to record. For I am in Brazil, they are subbed in Brazilian Portuguese, but if you are too desperate to watch it again, we can find a way. I am putting them on DVD soon. The ones I have here are (from Wikipedia's list):

*Dream of Doom - A 40 year old married, but childless, professor cannot wake from his dreams. Each time he wakes up, he finds himself in another dream.

*The Exile - A scientist who kills people in his experiments is arrested and tried. When rehabilitation fails, he is sentenced to be "exiled".

*Ultimate Weapon - Aliens from outer space assume human form in order to mate with a native earthperson.

*The People's Choice - A suburban family gets caught between groups of warring robots. When one of their robots is damaged every night, a robot repairman suggests that they buy a new one: a red, white, and blue patriot.

Keep on Rockin'!

You suck!!!

Yeah, but this has as much of a chance as Spicy CIty does to be released on dvd. They were both released in 97....

reply

So, if anyone has any of the episodes could you PLEEEEASE put it on youtube. Or AT LEAST the intro to the show. PLEEEASE?!?!?

reply

I know the quality isn't great but it's better than nothing. Here is the intro:

You know, it sucks the worst for me, because I actually recorded EVERY episode on to tape as they aired on HBO. Unfortunately, I lost the tape a long time ago. I believe the label I had fell off, and I had so many tapes of stuff, it either got thrown away or more likely, recorded over. It sucks. Still think about the tape til this day.

The only episode I really watched was Anatomy
Lesson.But,this is a crazy thought,I'm not sure
if we could ever do certain lives again.I'm more
cerain that I don;t know more than I do.But if I
could do this life maybe two more times and I had
the rights to this Jeremy London episode,I'd make
an epic heavy metal musical trilogy. And it would
be made and released in 1998.And be bigger and bet-
ter than the awesome and beautiful epic,Titanic.
What does anyone else think of this?

That was one of the most confusing posts I've ever read.

I second that Marc.

I can understand HBO thinking this probably wouldn't sell by itself, but they really should have included it as part of one of the Tales from the Crypy releases, given that it is a spinoff of that show after all, and also based on the old EC comics. Hell season 1 of Crypt only had six episodes, so if they had included this with those then it would have had a similar amount of overall content as the following seasons of Crypt on dvd. Alas I guess it just wasn't to be.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing HBO partner this show with their short lived (6 episode run) animated sci-fier Spicy City, as the two would make a logical pairing, kill two birds with one stone. Probably never see either one on disc though unfortunately.

Every episode is available to download in divx format. Check the info on the only episode of the show that is up on youtube for locations.

You know, I never get the bigger companies' unwillingness to put certain shows to DVD. Especially given the amount of direct-to-video drek all these studios put out on a weekly basis without seemingly batting an eye (or making any money). If there's a smaller demand for a show, like would probably be the case here, they don't have to print off millions of copies. Why not just make 10,000 or so, and sell them straight from their site? This way, everyone would be happy: The fanboys can buy themselves a copy, and HBO won't have to get the odd question about whether or not it's ever coming to DVD. Plus, they wouldn't have to waste money shipping them to stores around the world.

It just baffles me. There's a market for everything these days. There should be no reason that any show or movie is not available on DVD by now.

In 2001 the series was released on DVD in Japan by Pioneer Entertainment. I recently imported this edition and I highly recommend it. The picture quality is superb and it contains the original English audio, graphics & credits and best of all the English subtitles are optionable. Since this release is now out print it will be expensive to import but entirely worth it if you're a fan of the show.
