The should remake this movie

I know what your thinking, "Enough with the remakes". This is too great of a story to be remembered by a cheesy made for tv adaptation. With the technology now and the upcoming Clash of the Titans movie we could get a great adaptation it could work people.

I'd like to see this one remade, but WITH Armand Assante. And they shouldn't change the story too much. THis movie was pretty true to the original Odyssey by Homer. If they'd remake it the way they made Troy, I wouldn't like it

That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten.

I agree. It should be done with Assante as Odysseus. He excelled at this representation

I beg to differ, but I feel the 1968 Italian telemovie production starring Bekhim Fehmiu and Irene Papas is the closest to Homer's original. This 1997 version deviates too much, leaves out key characters/scenes and and adds unnecessary elements. As per my movie review, Ulysses is made out as a skirt-chasing bravado who brags and muscles his way out of situations, and Telemachus is depicted as a whimpy puppy who can't get out from under Penelope's skirt and tries too hard to prove his manhood by inane acts like engaging in a prizefight with the suitors, which isn't how it's supposed to be.

How the heck did this garner any awards?

If ever a remake (another one? Sigh) will be made of the Odyssey, please, in the name of Zeus and Athena, I hope the scriptwriters read the original plot first and not twist it to suit their tastes. I'd sooner ram a sharpened stake in my eyes

Exactly, I completely agree with you! However, it was never really a viable alternative to the Armand Assante production, because an English-language version (dubbing or subtitles) has never been available on DVD or any other medium. The only DVD releases are in Italian and German, and they lack subtitles.

However, the French dub of the 1968 Odissea series, created by French YouTube user Francheval from the Italian DVDs and a separate French dubbing track (presumably from an old VHS recording) now even has full English subtitles! An amazing piece of work (labour of love more like it) by this user - or someone else (I wish I knew how it was done)!

This means it's now available to all English-speaking viewers!

Actually I thought Sean Bean did a credible job in ‘Troy”, what little you see of him & maybe he should have a go at a full fledged movie about Odysseus. Just a thought.

As much as I love Assante in this, he's too old for the role now.

Rumor has it that Hugh Jackman is in talks with Lionsgate. Yay! I think he could pull it off. As long as it follows Homer's Odyssey and The Wolverine doesn't make an appearance.

That would be cool, if it wasn't for the fact that today's ancient epics look like *beep* just look at Troy, Alexander, the more recent Ben Hur remake and whatnot.
