New characters next season

I hope they say Nelson got promoted because he is the best (obviously just my opinion) DS this show has had. He always seemed to be proactive during investigations. I'm also curious how they are going to explain the new dog. Unless Paddy looks just like Sykes.

I like to think that when the "sidekicks" move on to other postings, and they're asked, "Have much experience with murder cases?", a reply of "2 years in Midsomer" should impress his new superiors.

I love Sykes, but they do age faster than a human actor. I loved the solution they had on "Married with Children". As the old dog died, we hear his thoughts that he's hoping to be reincarnated as something good (he considered his time in the Bundy house counted as Hell). Then he wakes up and he's a younger dog, but still in the Bundy house. NOOOOOOOO!

That is so true about the experience. Midsomer must have the highest murder rate in all of the UK. Oxford/Thames Valley might be a distant second.

I don't think the viewers are prepared for Sykes to pass away, even off screen. I hope they just cast Paddy as Sykes. I had read the article about Sykes retiring before I saw the season finale and was holding my breath the whole time hoping nothing happened to him.

I've seen a photo of Sykes' replacement and he is a different breed and quite young so I'm thinking may be that Barnaby will meet him while investigating a case.

reply

I don't know why, but I just assumed Paddy was also a Jack Russell. I went back and read the article and it doesn't say what breed he is.

i don't like nelson or sykes, so i don't mind either of them going. nelson is the most boring Ds Branaby has ever had. Aand the dog irritates me.

i agree, i don't care for the character either. she is very annoying.

reply

she is so irritating. and now it looks like she's had a thing with the new guy. they spent enough time trying to establish a flirtation between her and the other one now it looks like these 2 will carry on the silliness

I like Kam, she is something nice to look at plus she adds a bit of fun and youthfulness to the show plus a potential love interest for Winter.
As for Sykes, I will miss him, a wonderful little dog, i'm glad in real life he will be enjoying retirement, the new dog paddy looks good fun!
I like the character Winter, he suits the show perfectly, Nelson was a bit too trendy and casual for the show, I think Winter and Barnaby will work well together!

..."should've gone to Specsavers"!

(^If you're not British you won't get that advertising reference/slogan, although it is self-explanatory I suppose )

plus a potential love interest for Winter.

On a less sarcastic note I do hope they don't go down that road again what with Nelson/Kam's blossoming relationship cobblers of last series still hauntingly fresh in the mind.....

Whoever is responsible for casting this now miserable apology for a show does not have a clue in my opinion.
There is zero chemistry between the new Barnaby and his wife, the new DS--I can't even remember his name--with his too tight suit annoys me intensely and the new doctor are all horribly mis-cast.
I think I have had enough. No more for me.

reply

Whilst agreeing with much of your comment, I actually think there is good chemistry between Barnaby 2 and his wife!

As I've indicated elsewhere, the one-off (?) return of Jones in the last episode, if somewhat implausible, was welcome.
