Of course the religion is Christianity; Methodist is just the denomination.
Sure but denominations/schisms can have vastly different beliefs. There are even different beliefs between baptist groups

That's what I used to think. But after looking into it, turns out that the Methodists actually ARE right. Ironic, huh?
