Polly is terrible

How the hell are we to believe JC married her: there's zero chemistry and they've nothing in common!
How and when were they thrown together?

These are the exact same criticisms her character has had since she first appeared. And sadly they're all still valid.
The female companions on this show have gotten worse and worse. (It's not Sarah Alexander's fault though, just the increasingly odd writing choices of Renwick).

I think she's much better in the special than in Season 5.

Absolutely true. Also, a question I had while watching the latest special: was it implied she deleted that voicemail Jonathan got asking him to look into the case? It wasn't clear, but she had a kind of nervous look when the voicemail was mentioned later.

If she did it, was she supposed to be trying to stop Jonathan from investigating any more mysteries? It seems like at every point she discourages him from his old interests. But last series, didn't she help him investigate several cases? Incredibly confusing and unlikable character trait that was never brought up or dealt with later in the episode.

reply

Yes, she did delete that voicemail so that she could keep Jonathan away from his old life.

Polly makes Jar-Jar Binks look like a good idea.

I don't think it's the casting as Sarah Alexander is a good actress, it's the premise that Jonathan would have ended up with someone like her... or more to the point that she would have chosen him.

You have to warm to JC, probably have to work with him for a number of years to get what makes him tick. I don't imagine for a second that many self-confident, attractive "normal" women would just fall for him. You have to be around him for a while to see the "clever". Being smart is an attractive trait, but JC's annoyances would put most off. Successful, fit, intelligent women would not fall at his feet.
