I know some have seen him as an annoyance, but I saw him as light relief.
The light relief was needed as the best Jonathan Creeks were very dark indeed. And to this end Adam, in my opinion, was quite useful. The streaker, the elephant, the Frog Coat, the exploding breast, Jim super smashing marvellous Bowen and so on....
Anything that took us back to the light / dark humour and suspenseful Creeks over the bland nothingness of the last series has to be a good thing.
My wish.
Please, please, please, get rid of the wife. IT DOES NOT WORK, not on any level. Bring back Maddie, bring back Adam, bring back the windmill. Bring back anything that will instil life into what was the most wonderful program on my screen.
As I said elsewhere a freshly divorced Jonathan bumps into Maddie, who relishes in his marriage failure and requisitions him into her latest investigative endeavours. Maddie can then work on keeping Jonathan and the now regretful Polly (off-screen please) apart.
It has to be better than being married to a belittling, go-getting blondie.
Please Mr. Renwick listen to the fans. I fear if we get more of the same the legacy will be deader than that Elephant.
Humour + Horror + Mystery + Maddie + Jonathan = Jonathan Creek
If you are criticizing me because I prefer the way things were and the writing in the first 4 series then I will take that. Having been a regular here for a long time and read just about every post on JC I think I am not in a minority. So criticizing me for the sake of being critical isn't really fair.
I don't want things to stay the same, I want them to improve (massively) over where they are and the baby got thrown out with the bathwater, just about everything that made JC...JC, has gone and not for the betterment of the program. So would I stand by what I said and want key elements returned? Yes, I would. The program used to be fun, horrifying and smart and just about everything that made it so has gone.
I can't think of another program that has got rid of EVERY key element of it's success and survived. Criticizing me for wanting the best comedy / drama to go back to it's roots?..... hmm.....
Just watching that one. It felt that it could have done with Adam as the comic relief. I know they were to make the Vicar the relief but something just did not work. Maybe, just maybe they were planning on the Vicar taking over.
