Great series, whatever is written on the IMDB page

I was wondering if overseer-3 actually saw this series, he is the one whos comment titled 'A failure' is mentioned on the main page.
Pretty much all his comments miss the boat completely and the high score of this series shows that most viewers disagree with him.

A great show,it could have gone one for at least another series.
Historically pretty much authentic, not scared to show a darker side of the era as well, one that some people seem to think didn't excist.

I have just recently seen the entire series again, very interesting, had to force myself not to watch them all in one go.

Being a big fan of Poldark, I Claudius, Forsythe Saga, Pallisers, I was hesitant to purchase The Grand, but because Susan Hampshire is in it, I bought the series.

Do not listen to any negative reviews of this great series. I was rivited to my TV all day yesterday watching eight straight episodes. It's just as great as Forsythe Saga and Pallisers.

Stephen Moyer is so good looking; and the actor who plays Marcus is brilliant. He reminded me of Jack Palance and has the swagger of Liam Neesom. Not to be missed. I am so happy I purchased it.

Next for me to watch will be Lillie with Francesca Annis which I saw years ago and just purchased also.

I've been really enjoying the late-night double-bills on ITV3... Well-written, well-acted and genuinely engaging characters and stories... It shows you what sort of state British television - and particularly ITV - is in when something over ten-years-old and shown in the early hours is infinitely more watchable than anything any of the ITV channels show in primetime.

It's better than Downton Abbey and maybe as good as Upstairs Downstairs. The characters are complex and the subplots well paced. It uses the transitions at the hotel to show the transitions of the society at large.

I've seen 4 episodes. I hope I like the rest as well.

I had never heard of this series before. I just finished episode 5 and I am totally hooked. Susan Hampshire, Mark McGann, and Amanda Mealing are wonderful to watch.

The flip side of fear is understanding.

overseer-3 has some interesting observations, and although he may be over reacting in hid advice on whether or not to watch the series, he does make some observations about the tawdry nature of the story material and selfishness of characters.

But, it sounds to me like that reviewer may have seen two, maybe three episodes of the series, and drew their conclusions from that.

For me, I like the artistry of the series. It's a rarity that I get to look at a TV show I missed and say "wow, I wish I had paid attention to TV more", but this is an example of that. It's a very opulent visual piece, but I have to agree that the characters seem to be a bit too multi-directional.

Either way it's an okay show. Not something I'd watch again any time soon, but entertaining enough.

As a dude I wish there could be some scenes of the trenches on the front lines with Tommys and Dough Boys fighting the Kaiser's own. But that's just me.
