"Suicide is not funny"

Uh, yes, it is. Or rather CAN be. In the right hands and with the deftest of skill, ANYTHING can be funny. with the greatest care, a joke about a pre-teen rape victim being told they're now HIV positive could potentially... somehow be made funny. I can't for the life of me think of a single way in which such a horrific topic could be in any way amusing, but then I'm not a comedic genius. Eddie Murphy, in his stand-up film "Delirious" makes F a g bashing jokes HILARIOUS. Even today, in such a hyper-PC climate, it's still a super-funny bit.

And, just to be honest, I myself attempted suicide some time ago, unfortunately enough. And so; if I couldn't laugh about that bad, BAD time of my life, or couldn't find the occasional smile when it comes to all that deep-seated mental stress I battle constantly? I'd likely go insane. In the end, in my opinion, it's that ability to laugh at those most lamentable facts of life that gets you through the darkest, loneliest nights and soul-crushing lowest of lows.

I admire a great deal filmmakers, writers or comics that take otherwise off-limits or taboo subject matter and attempt to make it entertaining and funny - because if their efforts make this often painful, cruel world just THAT much easier to take... well, there's no limit to the value of that in my opinion.

P.S. To be fair, though - when it comes to "Dead Man on Campus", it seems the vast majority of people in 1998 agreed with StopSign07's "Suicide = not funny" assessment. Judging by the film's box office performance, anyway.
