Excellent

I remember this back when it first came out in 1997 and I remember thinking, "If they can make this - then why not Doctor Who"? I did enjoy it though and felt it was well thought out etc. Recently bought the DVD and still thought they were excellent episodes and it's a huge shame the BBC cancelled it. Some of the acting is a little hammy but it does get better. Could a production company take this on (without the BBC)?

If you read the statement on Wikipedia that is quoted to the creator, Anthony Horowitz, and it is to be believed then the programme wasn't exactly cancelled/axed...

But you will do - if you watch for thirty minutes!"

I wonder if they will ever think about picking it up again?

Surely Doctor Who won't snuff it out.. but perhaps attract more viewers (because of the similar theme).

I accept that this is a novel scenario and Horovitz has tried to keep it light and fast apace but for me each episode is marred by implausible plots. For example, in one early episode, the main character, Jeff Slade, knocks a restaurant waiter unconscious and then takes his place waiting on tables. I can just about forgive the idea that you can hit someone over the head hard enough to cause loss of consciousness without doing any permananent damage because it's a common myth but to then pose as a waiter in a busy restaurant and go unnoticed by other staff...? Every episode is riddled with these asinine threads. Yes, I stopper watching after the second episode. But I really want to know how old Horovitz was when he wrote it and what colour crayon did he use?

It was a good one off idea that became a badly executed series.

Its that man again!!

They did make a TV movie of Doctor Who the year before this show came out on TV. The idea was that if it was a success they would have made a new Doctor Who TV series long story short it was not a Success and was axed. Not long after this show ended the first series of Jonathan Creek started. There was a change in the back room staff at the BBC it seem everyone at the BBC liked Jonathan Creek and they just forgot about weather to renew Crime traveller or not.
