Dawn

Anyone think Buffy should have just punished her with a scourge?

reply

I don't think I've enjoyed a single second of that brat on my TV. Every time she was in trouble I was hoping against hope that would finally be the end of her. But nooo, that little turd couldn't be shaken loose and we've all suffered for it. 

Should've plunged her face into the boiling oil when she was flipping burgers. 🔥

reply

Joyce's last words to her should have been, "you're not real. Your just a damn energy ball. I hate you"

Buffy should have locked her in the basement and made her whip her own back with a scourge tipped with bits of metal, bone or other sharp objects. If Dawn refused, Buffy wouldn't feed her.

reply

She's just the *beep* worst. 

The fact that the actress playing her was such a social climber for a while made me dislike her retroactively even more. Which I didn't think was possible.

Where is she these days anyway? No way those syndication checks alone are enough to pay rent. At least her portion of it which can't be that large.

reply

Dawn should be scourged for all eternity.

reply

Dawn is wonderful and you're all deluded.

reply

No, she is an energy ball pretending to be Buffy's sister and killed Joyce, she was be tortured for the rest of her existence.

reply

A useless character designed only for the S5 storyline, overstaying her welcome after. Nothing more than a stone around Buffy's neck to make her life harder. Retconning 4 years of character growth and relationships out of existence to tell a story that doesn't follow logic (or biology) at any point. Dawn and the Dawnverse is a freaking waste.

reply

Why Dawn is the greatest;

1. She's the love of Buffy's life and gives her the strength to go on.

2. As the rest of the Scoobs become more capable she's the everyman/woman, she represents the ordinary over the super powered.

3. She's everyone's little sister/daughter

4. It's wonderful to watch her grow, like the early Scoobs between 1-3

5. Michelle gets really hot/legal by s7.

reply

1. She's the love of Buffy's life and gives her the strength to go on.

She's a weakness and Buffy needs to scourge her.

2. As the rest of the Scoobs become more capable she's the everyman/woman, she represents the ordinary over the super powered.

So you believe the average woman needs scourging?

3. She's everyone's little sister/daughter

Everyone little sister/daughter that needs scourging.

4. It's wonderful to watch her grow, like the early Scoobs between 1-3

It would be better for everyone if Buffy just scourged her.

5. Michelle gets really hot/legal by s7.

She needs more scourging.

reply

I think I'll miss you most of all, IMDb user who is strangely fixated on the act of scourging. 

reply

1) It's not real, never has been. Fake memories along with fake feelings.
2) Bull. The Scoobies, while sometimes needing rescue (so did Buffy), were capable of crossing the street on their own. I wouldn't trust Dawn to be capable of that.
3) Again, it's fake connections that are based on things that never happened.
4) It's painful (my poor eardrums), and it's useless and a waste of screen time.
5) I don't know about that. But S7 Dawn definitely makes no sense based on S6 Dawn.

reply

Yes, I don't know why Buffy didn't beat on her.

reply

This is spot on, calling her a useless character who overstayed her welcome.

In fact, the way Joss started writing the Buffy character for the rest of the seasons with Dawn around really was a low point. I honestly want to enjoy the last two seasons so much but Dawn makes it damn near impossible.

reply

I have no idea why Buffy didn't scourge her.

That'll put marzipan in your pie plate, bingo!

reply

So, you think Buffy should have scourged Dawn?

reply

That is hilarious!  And she has only seen Buffy this year for the first time! I can't imagine what that's like.

I'm going to be stumbling on gems like these right to the very last minute of IMDb boards being open, aren't I? 

reply

Probably so!

I only just discovered by someone posting it in a FB group.

Our Dawnie is the greatest, so lovely, so clever, so resourceful, one of the best things about the later seasons, how can anyone not love this girl? Bubbly and sweet with a hunger for fun and a smile which lights up the room.

reply

A brat that needs a scourging.

reply

Spanking, obviously (and it certainly happens all the time in fanfic) but no, to know Dawn is to love her.

reply

No, a scourging with a whip tipped with bits of metal, bone or other sharp objects across her back. That is what she needs.

reply

Too kinky! The Dawnster is excellent, how can anyone not love her?

reply

I never minded her either

reply

Kinky? This is punishment. How about it Buffy tells Dawn she's not real and killed their mum, locks her in the basement and Dawn has to scourge herself if she wants food.

reply

How about Dawn is the love of Buffy's life and nothing can come between the Summers girls? (Not even death).

reply

No, that isn't punishment enough. She has to be continually reminded she is not Buffy's sister, just a little energy ball that killed her mum.

reply

Why on earth do you dislike our wonderful Dawnie?

reply

Because she's a brat that needs to be scourged as punishment.

reply

I always thought she was believable as a teen. Most of the time we see mini-adults in teen shows rather than actual realistic teenage behaviour. She was an irritating little brat, but I'm quite sure a few of us were too :p

reply

Nobody was like her. She needs a scourging.

reply

Yes, Buffy should have locked Dawn in the punishment and made her whip herself.

reply

Yes. I agree with those who can't stand her.

reply

I like her, and her addition to the show. I can understsnd the hatred though and the retconning bothered me.

reply

The retcon made sense though I thought, and she was a little brat to start with.. but then they toned her down and she became likeable.

reply

I still think she should have been scourged.

reply

They toned her down in season 7 but then "it's my house too, Buffy" and i wanted to reach into the tv and shake her like a British nanny.

reply

Dawn was likeable to me until they made her bratty. Making her younger instead of her actual age is what ruins Dawn at times.
