where in brooklyn are they?

just curious.

Exteriors for this show were filmed in the Prospect Heights area of Brooklyn.
I watched them film part of the pilot back in the spring of 1997.

The police station at the corner of Bergen Street and 6th Avenue was the model for this show.

The exteriors and many scene (outdoor) locations are filmed in the Park Slope/Prospect Heights areas. The actual precinct exteriors used are of the 78 PCT which is on 6th ave and Bergen St, just off Flatbush Av. I suppose they model the show as if they are the 78 PCT, but alot of the locations of crimes they give on the show are way outside the 78's jurisdiction. The 78 PCT stationhouse is actully on the border of the 77 PCT. so if a crime occurs only a block away from the PCT, those cops are not the one's that respond.

Many of the area's the show responds to are in the jurisdiction of the 72nd PCT, 77 PCT, 88 PCT, 84 PCT and the 76 PCT.

To the person who said this isn't Brooklyn South is wrong. While it may not seem like the southern part of Brooklyn, if you look at maps of Brooklyn, the neighborhoods that the above PCT's encompass actually are considered Brooklyn South.... its a neighborhood thing. Although on the NYPD police they are considered Brooklyn North....

Although the first episodes were indeed filmed in Brooklyn, later shows were moved to L.A., I guess to cut costs. This cheapened the show.

The opening scene for "Fools Russian," for example, supposedly shows Officer Clemmie Johnson in a foot chase on Flatbush Avenue. Look close and you'll see blue street signs, used in L.A. New York signs are green. Also there seems to be an orange bus briefly seen in the background. MTA buses in NY are white with blue trim. That's one reason I like the new Blue Bloods show on CBS. It is indeed filmed in NYC.

"Fools Russian" is one of my favorite Brooklyn South episodes. I especially like the verbal battle between Sgt. Santoro and the highway cop, Ofc. Marshall Bouvier. Gary Basaraba, who played Santoro, recently appeared as an NYPD cop on Blue Bloods, with the same accent and delivery he used as Santoro. He's so perfectly NY, it's hard to believe he's originally from Canada.

I visited the site of the 7-8 PCT, which stood in as the fictional 7-4 in the show. There really is a Freddie's cop bar on the opposite corner. Or rather there was. The NY Times says it recently closed.

There really is a 7-4 pct. it used to cover Prospect Park. 7-4 is now BSTF (Like over 40 yrs now).
