Ending - warning spoilers

I simply loved the movie. The relationships among the four main characters are shown so well that there is tension and anticipation in nearly every scene.

The only disappointment was the tragic ending! Jimmy dies, Samir becomes a murderer, Quentin and Julie lose their friends / lovers and end up alone. All the four characters end up worse. How about a ray of hope or is it that there is no hope possible for these kids?

So much to see, so little time!
