Can someone tell me what the ending was supposed to mean? (spoilers)

I was rather confused about the ending of the movie. Could we infer that Dante was dead and this was another surreal moment or did he, Mickey, and his friend somehow survive to live out lives in suburbia?

he is in heaven. Dante gets into the same cart as Cisqo, who is dead, while the kid and the lady )who were not in the shoot out and both lived) get into a separate cart... Gabriel's ending he answers to god (issac Hayes)
