Haley's guy Simon

Was it just me or did Haley's love interest, Simon, seem horribly miscast? I watched this when I was a teen and remember thinking he was homely then, and I rewatched it just now for the first time in years and also noticed how incredibly flat his acting was in this film. I get why the director would want an alternative-looking guy since Haley wasn't the I'm-just-into-looks-and-popularity type and was different herself, but I think they could have done a lot better. What do you think about this casting choice?

I don't know, I'm not sure. I never thought he was bad, I actually felt sorry for him and liked him as a character. And I just took it as how he was supposed to act. Of course I was younger and I haven't seen this movie in years so you may be right at least about the acting. Somehow I convinced myself that Simon was played by Breckin Meyer.

Jus cuz I have one, two, maybe two drinks sometime, what I'ma AL-ka-holic now?

I think he was miscast - he wasn't particularly attractive imo - I reckon Haley could have done much better than him. Also I found it weird how he sort of forced himself into the sisters lives - like he was asking them for a lift home in their car? He barely knew them, I'd never do something like that it's just rude.
Maybe I missed something like a part were it was established that he knew the sisters well. Just thought he was a bit creepy lol.

When Alex was telling Hayley how easy it would be for her to get a guy, I kept on wondering why she would then settle for Simon. There's no law saying that you have to date a model, but his personality was just flat and weird. Kyle wasn't the greatest guy in the world, but he was a thousand times more lively than Simon. What was up with that guy? He claimed to have a personality to match the real Hayley's, but the only thing they seemed to have in common was their hairstyle(s).

Totally agree with you.
I remember thinking as a kid that he seemed unappealing but I just re-watched it and his character also kind of sucks?
The way he tells Alexia "I thought I liked your sister but actually we're more compatible!" and grabs her hand, when she's up to this point expressed no interest in him and actually has a boyfriend already... it feels weirdly entitled of him???

I get that they're trying to show that he likes her for who she is and not what she looks like, but the writing could have been a lot better, and the characters could have at least had an actual scene together before something like that happens.
