Missing Scenes on USA DVD???

One part of the movie made no sense at all. It seems they cut out a key scene. Renee Zellweger was eating dinner with Vincent D'Onofrio and her mother. All of the sudden, it cuts to her lying in bed with a doctor having just examined her. There was never any transition or explanation. Is the DVD missing scenes? Can anyone fill me in on what I missed here? That scene kinda ruined the movie to me, because I felt cheated... Has anyone seen those missing parts? Thanks.

I know what you're talking about. I've never seen a version that had anything between these two scenes you mentioned. This transition too struck me as very chopped and uncohesive. It almost makes you think she got food poisoning or something. If you read the book "One Who Walked Alone", by Novalyne Price Ellis, it makes more sense, because she details things in a much more linear and thorough manner.

If there is a scene missing in this transition, someone please describe it. I've heard of a few of the elusive "missing scenes", but I don't think any of the ones I've heard about deal with this part of the film.

Have you seen the VHS version? It's 5 or 6 minutes longer, according to IMDB. I read that some scenes might have been destroyed by fire. The movie really doesn't work, because it feels you are missing several important scenes.

There is a newer DVD release on Amazon that shows a longer running time. I have not watched it yet, but considered buying a copy to see if it's complete.

Have you determined if there are missing scenes in the New release? I also vaguely recall recall clips that were shown when Ebert reviewed TWWW that weren't in the movie.

I own the 'Whole Wide World' on LaserDisc... but I haven't watched it in that format yet. I purchased that disc because it claims right on the cover that it features the "Director's Cut." This version's running time is 111 minutes (vs the theatrical release running time of 106 minutes). Hope that helps!
