Deleted audition scene - Parker Posey

OMG - that deleted scene of Parker Posey talking to her brother in the hospital bed was freaky. I mean, it starts off normal and then just goes to another level of weirdom and it's amazing that Parker wrote it out all by herself. WOW. If you haven't seen it yet, get the DVD and watch that scene. It's jaw droppingly fantabulous!

If there's an empty space, just fill it with a line. . even if it's from another show.

It's like every bad monologue from acting class rolled into one.

She's just brilliant at the end when she mimes pulling the plug (after telling the judges there's a plug there) and shouts "Who's on top and who's on bottom now?"

Unfortunately I think that scene was just too long to be included in the movie. They needed something like "Teacher's Pet" where they could just show part of the routine.

Me-ow.

My girlfriend and I were on the train once and this guy was telling his friends about this deleted scene and it was SO hard not to butt into their conversation and relish in Parker's brilliance. In a film full of brilliant moments, this is like in the top three (deleted scene and all). It is so quotable, if I start typing my favorite parts I will have transcribed the whole thing.

Uggh. I don't think I've liked Parker Posey in ANYTHING I've ever seen (though she had a little more conviction in "For Your Consideration.") There's something about her that reads as always being out of her league.

No way! I mean, you're entitled to your opinion but I think she nailed it in this, she was absolutely perfect and totally believable. The deleted scene mentioned here was amazing too, as someone else already mentioned it was probably too long and unbroken to be a part of the audition montage, but good grief she has the amateur, clumsy monologue down to a tee, and it's so funny.

Holy Toledo Ohio, you totally nailed what I came here to say (and you said it 7 years ago!)

As a 15-year veteran of community theatre, (actor and director) oh dear goodness, trust me, Parker's audition was absolutely jaw-droppingly spot on. I think if there was a list of "cinematic crimes", this footage NOT making the theatrical release would be in the top 10. The first thing I said to my fellow cast members when we watched it in the green room before make-up call was "This being cut from the film was a crime".

As you astutely pointed out, though, it does go SO far off the chart that I can maybe see why Lord Guest left it out, maybe 'cuz it would "interrupt the flow" or something...although I feel that was totally ameliorated when Parker completely broke character to mention the "Plug". HA!
