Jessica Savitch and Ron Kershaw

This film is based on the realtionship between Jessica Savitch and Ron Kershaw. However, what really happened in their relationship is far from this sugar-coated love story. First of all, Kershaw was nothing like Redford's character, he in fact was violent and an alcoholic. He used to beat Savitch.

It was originally intended to be a bio, but some people changed their minds, which is pretty well-known. And Savitch wouldn't excactly get top marks at Sobriety School either.

I was disappointed that they decided not to make the movie based on " Golden Girl". But then it would not have been a love story, and a love story is what they were aiming for. There was A TV movie that was done starring Sela Ward that was closer to the real story.

I don't think scenes of a coked out Robert Redford screaming and beating Pfeiffer to a bloody pulp, Pfeiffer covering up her black eyes with make-up, Pfeiffer having an abortion performed, then telling everyone that she miscarried, finding her gay, depressed husband hanging from her dog's leash in the basement, slurring the evening news and finally trapped in a car in a ravine upside downhile the car slowly fills up with water that will soon drown her, would really been too upbeat.

You're right, the true story wouldn't have been "too upbeat" and definitely not a date movie like this one, but it would have been a lot more interesting.
