the remake.....

Is it just me or is this movie a lot like she's the man?!?! Coincidently, the names of the brother and sister are the same.....

Does anyone know if it was an actual remake, or where they just ripping off this great movie?!

I am happy to let you know that due to Shakespeare's having written Twelfth Night several centuries ago, it was not based on any movie.
(*goes away and weeps, due to this play's being her favourite Shakespearian comedy)

Wow! Are you kidding =)
Read or watch some more Shakespeare. You'll likely see a lot of familiar movie constructs, that were penned in the late 16th & early 17th century. Don't feel bad about mistaking who ripped off who though. The works attributed to Shakespeare were almost always adaptations of earlier stories.

Check out some of the other great Shakespeare plays adapted to film. You may discover a whole new world of great literature.

JLS II

Are you Shakespeare reincarnated? You've posted twice on seperate Twelfth Night boards, and that JLS II sounds so mysterious, as if you're a long lost descendent or something.

She's the man was based on The Twelfth Night, not ripped off. It's a different, modern take on the story for the most part.

She's the Man is a modern adaption. It says it in the opening credit. I think the same thing happened with 10 Things I Hate About You, Only its a much looser adaption of the Shakespear play The Taming of the Shrew. Catarina Stratford, is a reference to the main character Catherine of something like that and Stratford is a reference to Shakespear who I think was from Stratford upon Avon. It definately makes the concept of the younger sister being unable to date aka marry until her oldest sister did make more sense, since that was more common in those times.

Yep. But it worked well in 10 things I hate about you - i think the writers did a good job of updating the story without being too tied to the play. She's The Man was actually better than I expected too - i only went to see it to laugh at it, but it was actually pretty enjoyable.
I guess a good story is a good story no matter what - so I guess updating them makes sense.
Though - years ago I worked in a video shop and this girl came in and asked if we had "that period remake of Clueless" (ie Emma, the version with Gwenyth Paltrow). Although, in fairness, she was only about twelve, so I was impressed she wanted to check out any period movies at all! And if it got her into Jane Austen, well, all the better!

Please, please tell me that you're joking, or trolling, or something, anything to indicate that the levels of education and culture have not actually sunk to such depths.

I weep for the future, I really do. "She's The Man" indeed. Honestly.

If you are so educated, then you would realise the 'She's the Man' you would realise it is a modern reworking.

I haven't seen STM, only clips, but if it gets people interested in Shakespeare that is great. Having seen Channing Tatum's more recent films, I would love to see him to a traditional turn at Orsino.
