does anyone know...

what are some scences in the movie that are not in the book?

reply

The only scene that is officially not in the play is the first bit, where we see them on the boat and the shipwreck. All the rest are in the play, though the order has been re-arranged somewhat - some acts from the play have been split up into several scenes too.

In the play (or "book"):

- Antonio is NOT set free -- although this is how most directors interpret it. But there are no lines where Orsino says "Release him" or whatever.

- Viola never puts on her "woman's weeds"; she's dressed like a man to the end, even when she marries Orsino. In the movie, she's dancing with Orsino in a dress while the credits roll.

- Malvolio does not leave. In fact, he is swearing revenge and that's where it stands for him.

- Sir Andrew does not leave, although presumably he WILL since Sir Toby has soured on him and his ridiculous suit of Olivia is over. But it's not indicated in the play by any lines such as "Sir Andrew has just left."

- The play does not indicate that Olivia cries on Feste's shoulder. A few other little things like that, can't remember.

MORE:

- The scene where Antonio flees the cops in Illyria.

There is also no indication in the text of the play that Feste knows anything more about the gender deception than any other character.
