I always cringe

Ugh, I always cringe at the point that Abby puts the mayo on her face. That is so gross!

Agreed about the all, especially the "pregnant" part. Has to be the worst last line of a movie ever.

reply

Yes. For whichever reason, I was confused on why she said that she was pregnant. I know realize, though, that she was being "tounge in cheek," I guess.

reply

That's so funny you say that about the "...I'm pregnant" line. When I first saw the movie (a movie and star that I absolutely LOVE!), when Abby said that line I wondered to myself how long it took Janeane to talk herself into saying that line!

But I've always had this question: What does Brian say after she says she's pregnant? I've never been able to understand what he's saying. Is he saying 'Darling', 'Darnit', what the heck is he saying?

reply

I just watched the movie yesterday, and I wondered the same thing. I put on the subtitles and it said he said "darling"

I cringe at a small part early in the movie, where she's working on the radio show and talking to one of her callers, and the person speaks in a way that we're supposed to know this is obviously a black man, it's very exagerated. And he's talking about how he lets his cat lick his privates, and now he's got a rash. Bugs me. If I could delete that, I would watch the whole movie with nothing to cringe at because it's a perfectly delightful film.

reply

Isn't it the mans face that the cat's licking? It's been a while since a saw the movie, but I'm pretty sure it's face and not privates - and by the way, I've always imagined the caller to be a white man, that whiny accent has me thinking about a neat white guy, sort of a mama's boy =P

reply

I pictured a country Southern white man myself. And I'm pretty sure it was his face that had the rash.

reply

The cat is not licking his face. Go back and watch the film, listen this time.

reply

What do you mean? I just watched it and he said "cheek." Facial cheek, I assumed.

He said it's all in your head, and I said, so's everything--
But he didnt get it.

reply

the cat was licking his face and i also thought he was black

reply

The cat is obviously not licking his face! The man says that because he's embarrased by the fact that he made the cat lick his ***. Abby totally realises, and that's why she says that we have to love our pets, not LOVE our pets. Get it?

Actually, considering the smart, successful and ironic, yet pessimistic person that Abby is, I should think that her reply in the end was actually perfect for the finale. Come on, she's not Rapunzel; she's an ironical and very cerebral person...with a big load of low self-esteem, though. How would you expect someone like that to react in this kind of movie, in this kind of situation? Run down the beach strippin' for joy?
Second of all, allaya gorgeous, 6' tall models everywhere that have disagreed to Abby leaving Brian's flat... remember that Abby has made it big by using another part of the body than boobs. That, combined with her 'confidence' in herself, should be enough of a potion to keep her out of his apartment, when, otherwise, superb Noelle seems to be leading the dance. I simply loved Janeane's role in this movie (although she apparently did not). She plays her part perfectly. And all throughout the movie, she is just gorgeous.

ANYTHING ELSE? ;P

to me, katiedoes, the strangest things make you "cringe" ;)

I LOL when I heard her say the line about getting pregnant over the phone- totally tongue in cheek- it also shows her willingness to be open with him- something that he probably was still worried about after the big deception. (plus it's even funnier when he says are you sure it's me? and she said, I dunno, I made a lotta calls that night.)

the part where she walks out may or may not be childish- I can relate to feeling like the 3rd wheel at times- and she was really too hurt at that point to stay & probably break down in front of them.

during the pickle scene where she says she is "anti-pickle" he was obviously asking her for advice & was willing to try it her way. no more complex than that.

Parts that make ME CRINGE:

When he says to them, "your beautiful and dumb and your smart and..."
yikes!

When Uma's character says, "give it a chance, you dumb bitch!" and Garafalo's character calls her a dumb bitch too... why does this make me cringe? because in the movie the Uma character IS portrayed as "dumb" and I would think that would hurt her feelings deep down no matter how much they might be joking around.

Another part that makes me cringe when she brings back his sweater & he was totally harsh to her. I understand he was still mad & very upset, but again she went out on a limb rather courageously & he pretty much slammed her down.

Well, there's the things that make me "cringe" in this movie, for what it's worth!

reply

I think it's NOT "ant-eye pickle"

RATHER

"anti-pickle"

meaning...

NO PICKLES...

It seemed like Jamie Foxx was sleepwalking.

reply

well he did have a crap part... the dumb friend who's only interested in how hot a chick is!

I agree that there were definitely a few times that I cringed during this movie. Still, I found it hilarious and really liked it for the most part.

But I agree that the pregnant line was cringe worthy. It isn't out of character but for her to just interrupt a kiss to say that? I just didn't like it, though I do like the lines that follow.

Also, I agree with the poster who was saying Brian was a bit harsh. A couple of times I was thinking he was no saint. He was definitely a good guy though and I think it's understandable that he would be angry after finding out they were lying to him and not who they said they were. But that comment, "You're dumb and beautiful and you're smart and..." Ugh, it's like she just explained to you that's why she wasn't honest in the first place! But I think he may have just said that to get under her skin.

Oh and I think I cringed at some of the scenery. I remember the characters walking through some places that just looked like they popped out of a soap. Most of the scenery was good but some of it just seemed so random!
