Inspiration

Being a rower myself i was just wondering did any other rowers get in spiration from this film? I certainly did.

On the off chance that this topic can be resurrected.........

I watched it when it was new, and found it really compelling. Also, being an impressionable young girl I got a huge crush on Dominic West. Anyway... Years later I found myself joining the boat club at university and have just remembered how much i loved this film! Having been through training and gruelling races just adds another dimension to the experience of watching this film.

Yet again on the off chance that this topic is still open.....

Inspiring would have been an understatement. I was 17, a fresher coxswain, fighting for a place in the Thomian Blue boat. That's a mini version of the boat race here in Sri Lanka. Of course the training is as gruelling as Ox-Bridge. Plus you're much younger.

It still brings goose bumps when I think of the visual images of that final race and at the same time the actual races that I won. To say I love this film would not do it justice.

..... six years later.... YES!

Yes, I did find it inspirational!

I admit i'd never heard of this film before until it came up on an Amazon 'rowing' search. And since it had decent reviews and was reasonably cheap, I placed my order there and then.

Although I am a rower - am I not part of the world that this was set in. I am more of what they scoff at in the movie - the 'weekend' rower (ok i row in the week too and do land based stuff). While they touched on some of the intense training involved, the thing was was more inspirational to me was their attitudes (well when they werent fueding with each other I mean!!) - how passionate and driven to succeed they where. How much devotion is required to be the best!

I will think of this when I watch the upcoming Boat race this year. One forget thats for every person on those boats each had to fight for their place there.

I liked the ending of this too - without giving too much away (although it's kind of obvious what will happen) I found it very emotional, tense and much to my surprise had tears streaming down my face.
