The Sopranos Connection?

watched the film again last night after not having seen it in a few years. never realized how many sopranos cast members are in it. carmella's mother, chris moltosante, artie bucco. did i miss any? i realize that Buscemi has directed a couple of episodes but wondering if this film was responsible for casting some of the characters in the show.

Sheila Jaffe is the casting director for both Trees Lounge and The Sopranos. Steve Buscemi does a director's commentary on the "Pine Barrens" Sopranos ep on the 3rd season dvd. He talks briefly about the Sopranos actors he directed in Trees Lounge. I believe most of the Sopranos actors were cast because they're from the New Jersey area.

I thought Buscemi Directed that episode, which was basically Fargo wih Paulie and Chris in the woods. The best Sopranos episode ever. He's also in one of them (Steve)

Most directors tend to stick with the same actors, it makes sense.

The Sopranos DVD collections have a number of 'commentaries' - Imperioli etc. - they very often refer to 'Trees Lounge' - in fact, that's why I got the DVD. As loose as it is - it even holds together better than S's - at least if you think of the horrible Test Dream episode.

Nah, not even close.

I always saw Georgianne Walken as the casting agent for The Sopranos, every time the opening credits role on an episode, not to say Shiela Jaffe didn't also, but I saw Mrs. Walken's name as well doing Casting for The Sopranos, always wondered if she was married to Christopher.

I think David Chase on the commentary for the very first episode [the pilot] of The Sopranos mentions how he saw Trees Lounge and loved it. He then decided to hire some of them.

I decided to watch it for that reason alone. I liked it a lot. This is a movie about "real people". Real people usually don't change that much and do not have big story arcs.

I love the ending. Will he change his ways or not?

He says that he loved the casting and hired the casting agents in his interview with Peter Bogdonavich. It's a special feature on season 1.
