So did Tommy steal the money from Rob before Rob stole his girlfriend or after?
I couldn't figure that out. If this was clearly addressed in the film I didn't see it, must have been chasing the kids around...

I think it's implied that stealing the money was the event that really started the process of unraveling his life, including the loss of his girlfriend. Additionally, Rob didn't "steal" his girlfriend. She left him because he was a drunk, hapless, unemployed mope.

This guy is a stereotype drunk, bug-eyed, always running some lame story , mooching from everyone, treating women like marks....and it's a true story and he makes a movie out of it? I bet he ripped all the actors/actresses off for their pay for a chance to be in his movie.
